burning improvement from 984 to 988??
« on: December 11, 2002, 09:54:54 am »

Has just finished burning a critically important data cd for tomorrows big party, just to find out that the cd was
not burned ok. MJ did report an ok burn, explorer also reads the cd, as long as to view the folders, but when trying to access the folder I get an error prompt saying that the file is not accessible and that the folder has been removed or moved.

There is only one out of 94 files that is accessible, and this file is special, because when starting the burn MJ said that the file name had too many characters, and that it would be truncated to 110. I said "ok" to that prompt, and this file was the only one that is actually readable.

Coincidende?

and more importantly: I've got _one_ blank cdr left to do this right. Did v.988 include some improvements, that will handle this prob? I burnt the above disk using 984.

Hoping for any quick response on this one :-)

I can't answer your questions, but I can say using the internal burning engine to burn data CDs is useless (it just plain creates corrupt files/disks).

Have you tried burning w/o the 'use internal burning engine' option (ie, use the trusty Goldenhawk burning engine)?

No I used the internal. But I've only got one shot left, for burning this cd...

Usually I have lots of cdrs at home, but not today. The stores are closed (evening now in denmark), and I need to get it right before morning..

thanks for replying.

This bug has been fixed but not released yet. I can send you the new cd writer control via email, or you can wait until a bit later in the day when the new version comes out.

OR: Just remove the checkmark from "use internal burning engine". Restart MJ, try a "test mode" run first, then do the real burn.

thanks alot John!

I'll wait until later today for the release, or try the uncheck internal engine thing.

when the release comes out today, should I also with that release make the uncheck internal engine?

thanks again

If the stores are closed, maybe we can find someone else in Copenhagen who has a CD.   ;)

Anyone out there?

Well you don't need to uncheck the "use internal..." with the new release because it has the bug fixed.

But, since the bug was *JUST* fixed today and you have a critical CD to make (and only have one CD!), why don't you just leave it unchecked so that MJ uses the old Goldenhawk burning library which has worked for years now. So, remove the checkmark from the "use internal burning engine" checkbox, then you can use the software that you have right now. Try it in test mode first just to be sure.

Don't worry lise, it's only data CD's that were affected by the bug. Audio CD's are fine!

did a testmode burn - which was succesful.
then started a real burn - this came up:

"Error  - iso9660 image is too large to fit on disc"

and MC won't burn.

I hope nothing happened to the disc..., maybe I should just wait for the next release later today?

Jesper,
I'm sorry but we didn't get a build out today.  We are overhauling our code to try to make it work for Asia, where they often need two bytes for every character.

If you haven't tried, please read John's suggestion above.

I'm really sorry to let you down.  We'll put up a web cam tomorrow and ask JohnT to sing for your party.

almost np Jim ;-)

i will figure out a way.

I did what John suggested, but unfortunately I had by that time installed 988.

Will do an uninstall and reinstall of 984 and do the uncheck thing there.

thanks for getting back to me
Jesper.

Whew!

Let us know what time you want us to perform, and we will be there.  I have a red nose and set of antlers just right for the occasion.

Sorry about the mixup on the release, I'm glad you were able to get a good CD to use. As for me singing on webcam, well if your party is going on too long and you want to get rid of people, that might be a good idea  ;)

As usual - people were in awe over MC, I have many people to send mediajukebox links to on monday :-)

and John, the party was too good to want to stop ;-)
