Windows Media invasion
« on: December 11, 2002, 07:09:49 pm »

I can't seem to stop Windows Media (8.0) from playing my CD's automatically.  I'm running MJ 9 on Windows XP Home SP1.  I've changed File Types information and everything, but as soon as a disc goes in the player, out comes the Microsoft monster.  Please help me make it stop!!!!

I wasn't aware there was a WMP v8 (v7.1 was last STABLE release AFAIK). But since your running XP then 8 would be logical.

In MJ v8 there is a "Associate MJ with Audio CD's" option. There should be same in v9.

As a temporary measure, hold the Shift key down for 5 to 10 sec's after inserting CD.

Officially there is not a WMP 8.  The release that came with XP is officially known as WMPXP.  But to all intents and purpses it was WMP 8 as it the WM8 codecs and a newer interface than the one that shipped with WMP7.

You know M$.  Never can stick to a consistent naming strategy (Think of the confusion that ensued when NT 5 became Windows 2000 and Windows 98 became Windows ME!!!)

Try going to My Computer, right click on your CD drive(s), select the Properties option then the AutoPlay tab.  Select Music CD from the drop down and change it to whatever you want.
