CDDB not working ... Any suggestions ?
« on: January 02, 2003, 11:09:23 am »

Hi all

Something strange is happening when I try to do a CDDB lookup:

"Status: CDDB: Malformed command sent from server to client.

CDDB request failed. Do you want to switch to YADB ?"

Any ideas?
Thanks

what I said in the first message has not changed.

only old users who used and registered with CDDB before J river droped CDDB as a provider can use it.

it don't seem your one of them.

Use YADB

YADB sucks.  I've tried to look up track names for 4 CDs and YADB is 0 for 4.  CDDB had them all.

I have been trying various jukebox programs with the plan to install all my CD's once I find one I like. I am delighted with Media Jukebox except for this CDDB problem. I am having VERY poor luck with YADB while CDDB has worked great before. Is there ANY way to use CDDB? If not, I may have to give up on this program. Sure hope there's a way.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, buddha_butter

YADB currently has a 57% success rate since starting, and a 59% success rate this week. Most people find it very complete. One user recently reported problems that were fixed by trying the CD a second time (faulty internet connection?). The CDs you are looking up are probably there.

I deleted about 30,000 duplicates this week - YADB is getting much cleaner.

Are you doing store-bought or home-burned CDs?
Can you provide a time and an IP address for a failed lookup?

John,
I was trying to look up store bought CDs and was doing the lookups on the mornings of Jan 2 and 3 (between 9:00 and 11:00 am CST)

I am in the same position as Jim.  I very much like MJ but the lookup support through YADB seems questionble at best.  I haven't purchased MJ plus yet and I think I will have to keep looking for another jukebox program which provides a more complete lookup service.

Do you have any idea why CCDB lookup support was dropped?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to get info on a failed attempt. The CD's are all commercial, mostly foreign which don't appear to be in YADB, but do seem
to be in CDDB.

One more question: Why to I almost never get Genre info from YADB?

Your jukebox is so complete, with so many options available. It is hard to believe that you don't offer CDDB as an option. How about a CDDB plugin that could be purchased for a reasonable amount? This is a big deal for me since I have quite a few obscure CD's from around the world that CDDB seems to have data on.

Hope you can come up with a solution.

Thanks for your help.

CDDB was dropped because they raised their licensing fees quite a bit.  Also, many of the other audio programs available are in the process of dropping or have already dropped CDDB because of the high cost.

If you bought MJ before they decided to drop CDDB you should still be able to use it.  If you upgrade from MJ (with CDDB) to MC, you will lose CDDB lookup.
