Image View Suggeston...
« on: September 26, 2002, 09:24:58 am »

I alway have the Properties box set up for Image view when playing music so I can see the image & still have the top screen strickly for Visualizations.

Think it would be great if I could simply double click on the image to maximize it to full screen as I often want to see a more detailed view of the album cover.

What do you think? ?

It's a reasonable thing to do.  We'll take a look at it.

I have a favor to ask, myself.  When you think it's appropriate it would be nice to hear what you like about ACDSee that MJ doesn't have.  A brief comparison, in other words.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim said it.  We'll add this soon.

The only catch is that once the playback display switches to "Images", you have to turn it back to "Visualizations" by hand.

I'm sure there's a smoother way to handle that transition, but we're still trying to figure it out...

Thanks.

I've used ACDSee recently.  We'll look at adding some of the keys you mention.  More comments below.

Function_________________________________________  ACDSee___  MJ9
* Use mouse wheel to zoom in & out___________________ No_______ Yes

And what about "pan"?  Did you try that?  Press the P when you zoom in, then use [ and ] keys to alter speed.

* ACDSee has more powerful editors that intergrate well___ Yes_______ No

We will allow you to open the editor of your choice soon.

* Accepts all digital camera sources (plug-ins)____________ Yes_______ No

Not sure what you mean on this.

* Links up to e-mail to do simple image sending__________ Yes_______ No

This we will add soon.

* Can convert any image extension to any other__________ Yes_______ No

That's an editor function and for now, we'll leave that to other editors.

* File extensions show up in Name (not File Name as MJ9)_  Yes_______ No

Tooltips should show you this.

* Can set image as wllpaper__________________________ Yes_______ No

MJ 9 does this.  Right click on the image and choose "Set as Desktop Background".

Doc,
Thanks for the list.  We'll get to work.

* Have used Pan but find it of little us (for me).

* Accepts all digital camera sources (plug-ins). ACDSee has an options screen just for cameras that let you pick the exact camera of your choice for the type of interface to your computer.  As new cameras come out, you simply download the latest camera plug-in... neat! :o  But with the wide acceptance of USB this may be less useful for some users.

* Can convert any image extension to any other.  Its not an editor function but is built into ACDSee.  Select the thumbnail, right click, select convert, a format conversion screen comes up.  This works really nice for me.

* File extensions show up in Name (not File Name as MJ9.  I have tool tips turned off as they clutter the screen & sometimes get in the way of a power user.  I need file extensions as part of the "Name" field as this helps me in sorting by extension.  Looking at MJ9 I see a 'Type" field which should work ok for me so this is now ok.

* Can set image as wllpaper.  Missed that one, thanks Jim. ::)

YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST!! ;D

JimH;

I forgot one of the most important things that I do in ACDSee... Bach Renaming.

ACDSee does a wonderful job of renaming large groups of files with automatice numbers included in the new names.

Example: I down load a bunch of images, they all have different names or ones I don't like.  Let's say they are Pretty girl 001,  Pretty girl 002, etc.  In ACDSee I can highlight all the files I want to rename, right click, select 'Rename Series", type in a new common name such as Pam Anderson, select the starting number such 1, do ok & all the files become Pam Anderson 1, Pam Anderson 2, etc.

I can also save my new naming sequence as a template to be used in the future.

This is a very powerful feature that I use every day & MJ9 does not have it (yet).
