UPDATE

Sound if fine and good
I messed around with TotalRecorder and had a weird setting in drivers

Got a free week trial-here my feelings:

-very good stream ,no re-buffering
-sound so-so. You get a Windows 8 128 kps stream and you can heard this 'metallic echoe' effect who is a Windows codex trade mark.
When playing not quiet music - Queen of theStone Age ,Pearl Jam,Kryuus- sound is not really good.
On the top of it there is not any sound settings in the player, only volume.
concerning streaming, there is total freedom of choice, full albums ,playlists and so on.
Catalogue is not bad  to be fair ,but a lot of old records,no underground or really alternative music to listen to.
Some records are not complete, even in stream-reedition of the first Who album WITHOUT 'My Generation" to listen to ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now ,the breaking news :

WHEN THERE IS A 4  LETTERS WORD IN A SONG ,YOU GET 'BIP"...............

$10 a month is to much for such a service

PS: a post without gun or machine gun ,but with MC9 recorder working non stop.......

By the way
If i download the full Queen of the Stone Age from Rhapsody i have to pay $14

If i want to buy the real cd at CDNow

Songs for the Deaf [EXPLICIT LYRICS]
~ Queens of the Stone Age (Audio CD)
Original Release Date: August 27, 2002
Avg. Customer Rating:

Usually ships in 24 hours
List Price:   $14.98
Buy new:   $11.99
Used & new from $10.

do you need any comment...?...

But at least the good news for you, zevele, is that the new Queens of the Stone Age album rocks like a 'BIP BIP BIP' stard...

I was not sure bout the 'bip bip',the song starts with a very bad sound and so on ,so can be a joke from QOSA.

I downloaded it from another site i pay for and ..NO bip bip ...

This record is quite good.If there is a vinyl edition ,i may buy it

Whoa! A translation error on my part. I thought you meant that words in the song TITLE were blanked out, eg Big Black - Songs About F***ing. But I think you are saying that certain words are 'bleeped' out from the actual music. For those of us who are old enough to want to listen to music in the way the artist intended, this is no good at all.

That album does have fake radio station DJ chatter between songs, but no 'BIPs' that I can remember.

Zev: My translator is faulty again - it sounds like fun, but i dont know what you mean.

But I do love Big Black, and Shellac after them. Its powerful - but not exactly party music. Given that I use MC mostly for dinner party background music these days I have to wait for those rare moments alone to turn it up to 11 and run around the house like an idiot...

Both are2 punk bands from today .
Very good ,not the
'mamy i am nice and clean ' punk from Green Day or Blink 18...
toast kind of 'do you want a slice of'

Do not think that Blag Flag would sound nice to dinners ,i agree with you!

I like the selections on Rhapsody. A lot. I have noticed some high volume strangeness but up until now chose to ignore it. I am also not completely satisfied with E Music. They don't have a lot of music that I like.
I'll give both until the end of the year to make me happy with them or I'll cancel. (I can do that with my current arrangement with EMusic). Good news is that with the money I'm spending on both, I can buy a Media Center every month ... OR make payments on a DVD Audio machine. But that's a different thread.

As you can see i did an update concerning sound.

Be sure that Rhapsody player has sound input set to wawe  NOT direct sound.
Like it ,the sound is quite ok.
There is not enought music on Rhapsody to spend $120 a year on it. Isle of Wight ,you have 33 songs and only 4 to play...
I do not care that it is only streaming.
As you say it is a good think to be able to listen  to albums you do not know.
Few years ago ,you-or i- would have be very happy to get 20 cds  from me to listen to .
No computer ,you would have only listen to it and put one or two on tape. And life was nice.
The same with Rhapsody,if you really want to get it,just start MJ recorder or PowerAmp one and you get it.

If one day they have more than one best of for many artists and more inde labels than Matador -the only one at this time- sure it would be quitte a good service.

I am very surprised that you do not find that much on Emusic.
There is a lot of alternative country , very good rockabilly and country. The R&B section is really good as the alternative section is.
There is treasures on Emusic.
Ok,for sure ,my few thousand records collection has more to do with the Emusic catalogue than the PressPlay one,but -again- very strange you do noy find that much.

Now start to work man:
download Luna Live from Emusic .
On Rhapsody listen to A TOTAL MASTERPIECE, Son Volt "Trace'.
If you have a hippy flash back ,go to listen to the 2 live concerts from Little Feat.

If you smoke [tabaco i mean] how Media Center do you spend on it a month?
How Media Center do you spend on drink a month?
With a year plan on Emusic you spend $20 a month on internet music. Two indee cds or one s  h ity top 40 one .
Still ok . But ,yes ,i would not spend $$$$$$$$$ each month on internet music. Let say no more than $ 20-25 a month.

Have a nice sunday in your 'like in a movie' superb house

Thanks Z,
I like my house, too. It's an old farmhouse built by two farmer brothers circa 1946. The knew about good solid construction (sawmill oak --- a 2" x 4" is exactly that, not 1½" x 3½") but they didn't know beans about floor plans. Very strange layout. Further complicated by moving the bathroom indoors (the outhouse is still outside and in good shape) Circa 1950's (I can tell by the pink fixtures). I like it anyway. I converted the dormer attic into two bedrooms and a bath. I'll stay here until I physically can't anymore ... due to death or infimiry or fire.

I don't smoke ... anything.

I drink three beers once a week. On the same day and one right after the other ... I don't want to waste them.

My vices that cost money are the Internet, buying CD's and the Science Fiction Book Club. I also drink a lot of coffee. I have also been known to indiscriminately collect audio equipment. Now THAT can get expensive.

I may keep Rhapsody. I also may keep EMusic. I also will keep buying Media Jukebox or Center or whatever they call it in future incarnations.

I downloaded Luna Live like you suggested but haven't listened to it yet. While I was there, I found another 70 or so songs to download and they still are so I haven't listened to Son Volt either.

Log back on to AudioGalaxy. They are now apparently a new music/artist broker like Napster was going to be. A few fairly good songs. You get one per artist and then they want you to buy the CD. But you still get one new song/new artist.

A few years ago, John Gateley bought 800 volumes of science fiction in paperback for $50, on the condition that he take all of them.  There was a big overlap with his own collection, but he did it.  I think it took a year or so for him to finish what didn't overlap.

Will you e-mail me an address?  (jimh @ jriver.com).  I'd like to send you a book.  I'm leaving Monday, so it won't show up until after the first.

Sorry to interrupt.

I forgot to say, "It's 160 Kbps". Now that's unusual and encouraging.

From 13th or 15 th of januar only 3 songs on free artist page-as much as they want if they take premium service
and they will stop 'netcd'.
I am downloading like a mad and buy all the net cds i have on my list.
Look like the end of MP.com as we know/like/use it

Does Not E-music or Parent Company Own MP3.Com?

This maybe a good thing for the future of downloadable music.

I don't know who owns who but I do know that most of the downloads I get from Emusic come from MP3.com. Also it seems that an Emusic Subscription gives you access to MP3.com's services. I'm not real sure about that because I haven't delved too deeply into that.

EMusic's parent, Vivendi, owns it.  They also own Universal Music.  In our experience, the group of companies has been good to work with.

Emusic subsciption DOES NOT give asces to MP3.com services.
If yes i would have downloaded hundreds of cdnet.

If you are not a musicien ,there is not that much services you can buy on MP3.com. :
MP3.com ad-free at $1,99 a month
MP3.com Player plus at $2,99 a month.
To listen ,download, transfert to device and even burn direct from  download  WITHOUT surfing the MP3.com site.
I have the Ad-free since long ,and just took the Player plus because look like there is not any download manager working with MP3.com now ,even the MJ one.
There is also cds and cdnet to sell.
They are from artist on MP3.com.
Real cd is with mp3 and 'normal red book' cd. You get booth.
But ,as far as i understand ,artists upload they songs in MP3 format to MP3.com.
In this case you get in fact a 'normal, red book ' cd burn from MP3.
I am not sure about it ,i may be wrong.
Cdnet are just the cd on line in mp3 format.
I bought a lot of them. From bands i really liked ,but not to the point to buy the cd at $8 PLUS postage to Israel
$3,99 was a good deal for me.
Now they will stop cdnet and no more than 3 songs on free artist page.
Or they pay:
plus =$49 a year
Gold=$99 a year
Artist will not get money for songs played or downloaed anymore.
AS i say,not the MP3.com we know since years.
They want to make more money than know ,or to use MP3.com in an another way.
Anyway right now i'am downloading like mad all artists i have in 'myMP3' and i buy all the cdnet i have on my list 'to buy from MP3.com' on my exercise book..

Better NOT to think about the internet bill for january....:
MC9 + slideShow+$ 150 PayPal + HOW MANY[??] netcds from MP3.com ....

i just put an adress  in the US.
Kind of: grand drive 43#-gretyres -45678-colorado.

It was a trial where they did not ask for your credit card.
To take a subscription they use your billing adress from yourcredit card to check if you are in the US or not.
I think there is maybe a way to turn around it but do not have the time now to try what i think.
MusicMatch has since today the same kind of service.
There is aswell a free trial and -as far as i understand-for everyone around the world

Dear Zevele,

But the problem is that their site requires customers to put in the credit card number and billing address first before they can download the Rhapsody software. How can I follow your instructions when they use this method?
