Rhino;

Database build says I have enough information to create a database but by the time it gets done it says Could not create database.

Shelly,

Can you zip and email me your MediaFiles.JMD file (found in the data folder of your MC installation directory) so I can try and reproduce the error here.

My address is jamie@jdnet.co.uk.

Hey Rhino,
Just a feature that would be really nice.

U know the list that's in the 'Album Details' view with: Entire Library, New, Favourites etc.

Could this be extended so that it's also in the 'Overview screen so that we can use that interface for our favourites and new albums as well?

Nila,

Do you really mean hide the album overview/tracks/playing now pane and the track details pane?

If so then I have been toying with this idea ... stay tuned.

I'm not quite sure what you mean Rhino.

What I mean basically is the ability to view my favourites, new albums etc in the 'Overview' screen.

Nila,

I think I see what you want.   You want to just view the favourites/new albums without any zooming facility.   Is that right?

NY40Male:

No, as I want to allow people to have multiple versions installed at the same time, for example version 2.0 and 2.1.

Lol.
Not quite sure what you mean.
I just mean where it says: View - choose overview screen.
Then just have a drop down list of: All, New, Favourites with the search bar underneath it.

That way I can search my favourites or new albums just like I do for my whole collection while still using the overview interface.

Feature Request:
Can the 'Make DB' wizard remember our old settings when we're doing an upgrade.

I'll see what I can do.

Also the wizard does remember your previous settings ... why don't you think it does?

I've never seen it fail unless you exit MC/MJ unexpectedly (for example it crashes) as it's only at the end of the program that the registry get's written.

But keep an eye on it and let me know if it happens again.

I am having a lot of stability problems.

Am running windows ME (wish i was not), will try it on an XP laptop.  JPGs display with a lot of squiggle lines.  Things are slow and buggy.

I really like it though and would pay for a stable version.

Any tips?

Can you explain what you mean by "things are slow and buggy" please.

Also are you using MC9?   If so then try using MJ8 since there are a lot of bugs still in MC9 (as it is beta software) ... for example it doesn't support internal MP3 images thru the SDK which would cause an AV exceptions dialog to appear.

As far as the squiggly lines business is concerned I think that's to do with the IPicture interface (which is built into the OS).   As a test can you open up an image in, say, Paint Shop Pro (or equivalent) and shrink it down to 64x64 to see if it also shows the squiggly lines.   If not then can you email me the picture to jamie@jdnet.co.uk so I can look at it here.

The feature set is too numerous to cover but some of the hilights are:

1)  Can specify the rules where to look for artwork
2)  Customizable artwork sizes/text
3)  Copy artwork
4)  Dynamic grouping
5)  Move "The" to the end of an artist/album

Plus remember that people are quite happy with MJ8 but still want viewing by artwork.

When I create a new database Album View can't find my cover art.  I know they exist because I can see them through MC9's graphical view.  The cover art was added as part of the tag (ID3v2).  How can I get Album View to find the cover art.

This is the price we pay for using beta software ... things don't work.

This issue is nothing to do with AV ... MC9 has a bug where it doesn't return the image within a track to an SDK user.   Try running AV against MJ8 and you will see it working just fine.

I'm sure J River will get round to fixing it when they have the time.

Hey RB,

I just updated AV to the new version last night, and it now hangs upon startup of the plug, rendering MC useless (I eventually get the ol (not responding) prompt ). Basically crashes MC until I close and restart, and AV will only show a very old database that I hadn't updated in some time. I need to update the dbase to make AV much more current, but it just won't go. ?

I am using MC9 .107, and AV 2.0 (2.0.6.1)...help...

Hey Rhino,

AV's got some bugs. It keeps crashing on me when I double click on a track in the over view screen.
It tries to jump to the Album Details screen and doesn't draw itself properly (the left pane still shows the overview) and then it crashes.
I know it's AV because I double clicked on an album then quickly clicked elsewhere in MJ to take the focus off AV, the song kept playing, when I went back to AV it then crashed instantly.

I disabled the jump to album details and it worked abit but crashed a bit too.

Also - would it be possible to have the sort order sticky so it remembers it between each load of MJ.

Thanks :)

RB, nevermind, I got it working by having it create a totally new db with the "preserve settings" feature turned off, then it ran fine, but I lost some rankings and everything is now "new", o well, beta testing, yea!

Sorry Guys ... I've been out of the loop recently ... just got a new machine and it's taking ages to setup ... plus it didn't help that my Ti4200 died on me :(

Anyway Autoelph ... I'm glad you got it sorted.

Nila,

I'll look at the bug and I'll make sure the sort order is preserved ... but it will be a week or so before I release 2.1 but the wait will be worth it :D :D :D

I thought the image inside file issue was still with MC?

I'll look at it tommorrow when I get MS .Net installed.

I am having loads of fun with my new PC ... got a P4 2.53ghz and have so far clocked it up to 2.90ghz :)

Hopefully AV won't take ages to compile now :D :D

Hey Nila, I guess you've never tried encoding DVD video then, huh? I love my 2.4, O Yea!

Rhino, I just thought maybe you would know something about the SDK\Image-in-File thing from the folks at JRiver, guess that was the wrong assumption  :-/, thanks anyway.

Here's two features that would be nice for v2.1 :)

  • Every time AV starts for the first time, query MJ to see how many tracks it has, then compare this to an internal store of how many it had last time the library was updated, if the number is different ask us if we want to update our library, if we say no then use this number as the new 'old library size' number :)

  • On the 'new db wizard' button, have an option on the first screen to just: 'update library with old settings' so that we can then skip the next 5 or so screens and just do an auto update with the old settings.

Hey Rhino, got some bad news. I finally had to remove AV2 as it just made MC9 very unstable. It was quite simple to focus my crashes down to AV2, and some weird tagging issues as well (check Nila's post in MC9 board about this). Otherwise, MC9 is very happy on my system, but always crashes at some point within 15 minutes of using or after using AV2.

I LOVE my AV2, that's why I registered it after 1 day of using it, so it's a sad day for me. Any update in the future that can excercise the AV2 demons?

Hey Autoelph,
What kinda crashes were you getting and under what circumstances??

The latest version of AV after the grouping was added has a few bugs but these I'd imagine will be ironed out pretty quickly and AV will back to it's normal high quality standard again :)

Autoelph,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.

I have re-written the entire back-end graphics/display subsystem and I am hoping to release a beta to test on Monday.

Hopefully you can wait till then as I have also embedded debugging that we can switch on to try and isolate your issues.

Hey Nila,

Well, the only time I've ever gotten a mediacore crash was after using AV2. MJ.exe would then lock up my processor, and I would have to close the process again after closing MC. If I would reopen MC, and not immediately stop AV2, MC would become unstable within a minute, then crash, and I could repeat this loop until I stopped AV in the plug section. Finally, I uninstalled it for now, just need MC to run smoothly first, add the fun stuff later. I'm sure Rhino will get it going soon, I can wait. ;)

Yeah, I've been having quite a few crashing problems with MJ recently.

Cant wait till they get it a bit more stable :(

The release on Monday of AV I'm sure will fix it's problems.
