MJ Plug-In Code Named "Gonkulator"
« on: October 17, 2002, 10:32:21 am »

Use This On Backed Up Files Only.

Adds Or Removes "The" In The Artist Name.

Will Now Allow You To Swap Album, Artist, And Title

Version 0.0.003 Adds The Reading Of Tags From File Names And Will Read 6 File Formats. It Will Read them Manualy (Each File Using The Manual Button) Or Can Be Used In A Batch.

0.0.004 Adds A Way To Cap All Standard Fields MJ Does Not Allow This Option.

0.0.005 Adds The Following Import Format JG Wanted

[Year] - [Genre] - [ArtistName] - [AlbumName] - [Track #] - [SongName]

Other Suported Fields

"[ARTIST] - [NAME]"
"[NAME] - [ARTIST]"
"[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [NAME]"
"[ARTIST] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]"
"[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]"
"[ARTIST] - [TRACK #] - [NAME] - [ALBUM]"

Also Adds The Option To Rev Artist Names Like

John, Elton - Rev - Elton John
Elton John - Rev - John, Elton

It is a Bit Smart And If ", The" Or "The " Or " And " Is In The Artist Name It Will Not Try To Change The Artist Name

Also Anything With More Than 2 Spaces Will Not Be Changed.

Adds an option to Not Only To Cap Everything But Since MJ Does Not Have A Lowercase Option That Is Now Included.

King,

regarding:
>>[Year] - [Genre] - [ArtistName] - [AlbumName] - [Track #] - [SongName]
>>"[ARTIST] - [NAME]"
>>"[NAME] - [ARTIST]"
>>"[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [NAME]"
>>"[ARTIST] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]"
>>"[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]"
>>"[ARTIST] - [TRACK #] - [NAME] - [ALBUM]"

Are these all the combinations available (if so, see ***), or can you mix & match?

***
need a soundtrack format >>"[Album] - [Track #] - [Artist] - [Name]"
EAC has a Various artist check box, but when selected it literally puts in "Various Artist" for Artist.
So not checking it produces your format "[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]"
It would be neat if it could look for "Soundtrack" or "Compilation" in Genre, and if found, rename the file accordingly.

by the way someone reported that when using the [X] start batch at the top option the program was really starting at the second file.

I just fixed it same version #, 3:13 EST

I was telling it to go to Listindex "1" and i should have been sending it to "0" since the first file is always "0". don't ask me why i did that real dumb. Just picture a device on my back with a string i can pull with a boot that hits me in the ass.

King,

X: It would be neat if it could look for "Soundtrack"
X: or "Compilation" in Genre, and if found, rename
X: the file accordingly.
K: Not sure what your talking about

The whole point of the "Gonkulator" is to rename files easily, right? And that's because MJ doesn't have an alternate format, correct? It's not meant to be a tag manipulator, is it?

By looking for key words (such as Soundtrack or Compilation) in specific tags, it can intelligently apply the formatting (soundtrack formatting in this case).

X: rename the file accordingly.
K: show me a sample of a before and after.

Before: (in format used 99% of time - call it the default)
Roy Orbison - Blue Velvet - 12 - In Dreams.ogg
Ketty Lester - Blue Velvet - 13 - Love Letters.ogg
Julee Cruise - Blue Velvet - 14 - Mysteries of Love.ogg
Note that if you pick an alternate format in EAC (MJ doesn't have one), it will look like this: Blue Velvet - 12 - Various Artists - In Dreams.ogg

After: (in soundtrack format)
Blue Velvet - 12 - Roy Orbison - In Dreams.ogg
Blue Velvet - 13 - Ketty Lester - Love Letters.ogg
Blue Velvet - 14 - Julee Cruise - Mysteries of Love.ogg

no, it is not ment to be anything

I don't have any option in there to rename, and don't see a need for it since you can do renaming in MJ and put in the format you wish so i don't see a point in it.

Before: (in format used 99% of time - call it the default)
Roy Orbison - Blue Velvet - 12 - In Dreams.ogg

After: (in soundtrack format)
Blue Velvet - 12 - Roy Orbison - In Dreams.ogg

you can do this in MJ

just change the rename format in mj to

[Album] - [Track #] - [Artist] - [Name]

about the formats it is basicly to read formats of files with no tags that users download. MJ provides one you can use at a time this program allows you to use many at the same time depending on the number of dashes in the file name.

Well I know that ...  then change it back manually for normal music. That's a pain in the neck.

So the "gonkulator" is just a gag...  ...or what?

This is a perfect situation for a "Real" Gonkulator. Maybe I'll write one.

No for what it does it works.

Someone had an idea the otherday to add to it.

My cd name (Disk-1)
My cd name (Disk-2)
My cd name (Disk-3)
My cd name (Disk-4)

etc....

New

My cd name (Disk-1 Of 4)
My cd name (Disk-2 Of 4)
My cd name (Disk-3 Of 4)
My cd name (Disk-4 Of 4)

i think i figured out how to do it, it will take some time for me to finger out the rest.

That's the problem - What does it do?

I haven't seen any practical examples/applications

The"Soundtrack" problem I mentioned IS one.

did you install it? if not you might want to go look at the info from the MJ plug-ins page as i add things i add the info there. also the first message in this post tells a few things the program does.

there are a few people who hapen to think it has mad there life a bit better.

>> The"Soundtrack" problem I mentioned IS one.
Maybe but i still don't see your point, maybe if i did i would understand.

sure the genre can be searched, no problem

I just don't understand why, thats why i asked for a sample and something simple so i can understand, I may have a thick head.

That Said it would seem to me that you can do all this in MJ simply by doing a "Find" by genre "Soundtrack" and then use the format you want to rename the file.

my idea of this program "Gonkulator" is to create some options that you can't do with MJ, and not to recreate something that can be done within MJ.
