What (I Think) I Need.

Is to create a Full VB Install With All Runtime Files Etc...

Chart Finder.Cab
Setup.exe
Setup.lst
Registry.reg

Then I Need To Put This In A Zip File

And Upload It To MJ.

Problem:

What Is the Correct Way I Should Fill Out The Registry.Reg File

And What Commands Do I Need To Put In The MJP File That I Paste In A Window When I Upload The Program?

I am still wondering how i am going to build a install package that includes all the VB runtime files and get it on the web site for install as a plugin.

I don't see it happening.

Any Ideas?

Well been playing with it, don't see how i can get it to work, and then activate the Registry.reg file


by the way if you add a "\" on the front of the HTML tag it activates the link. I Activated the link in your last post for you free of charge.

You don't activate the registry file ... you specify the registry settings in the setup, e.g.:

I was looking at that in that installer program you pointed out.

but since I never done it before, I would not know what to enter.

what you have listed below seems clearer to me than what i was looking at.

This would be helpfull in this forum "How To Build A Install Package" for others. and all what would need to be done then is tell them what they need to change.

let me ask another question.

normaly i would use MS install package, it does really everything for you. finds all the dlls and runtime files and all that and packs them up in a cab file. how would i know what files and where they should go and then i need to register the dlls and all that (something i have no knowlage about).

Is there another way to figure all this out for me?

i just looked in the MS Install at the setup.lst

it has this in there, i guess this is also a list of files i need to install the program.

Dude,

I would not touch the MS packager with a 10ft barge pole.

With each OCX you use it should tell you a list of dependancies, you then include these in your package.

Professional installation software, e.g. InstallShield, performs a much more comprehensive review of your application and it will create a good stab at all the dependancies required by your application.

Unfortunately with big applications it's very rare for these type of products to get it right and you have to "know" here to look.

The reason I use InnoSetup is that I know exactly what to include in my application.

There is no Chart Finder.ocx in the zip file.

I fixed it on our server.

OK, but i normaly don't make programs for other people so it was working fine for me.

Do you know anything about the "Wise" installer? I have been thinking about that for the last year.
