Tivo not seeing Media Center
« on: September 04, 2003, 02:43:03 pm »

I just connected my HMO.  I know it is working correctly b/c I dropped some songs and pics into Tivo Desktop and published and it worked.

J River:  I followed all of the step by step instructions and everything appeared the way it should in the media center software.  So then I was done – all directions followed.  But where is my stuff on the Tivo?  Did I miss a step.  Media server is running.  I’ve chosen “share”.  But what am I actually sharing?  Did I need to choose a set of files?  The only thing on the “Library” tab is “default.”

I do see this:
...sharer ready to accept connections
...Started auto response thread on 5556
...TiVo HTTP ready for connections.

I love this program.  Just need to get it working.

Thanks in advance,

You're sharing whatever is in the MC library.  Import if necessary.

Check the settings in Media Server.

Using I guess what is the "default" MC Library, I have hundreds of mp3s in there.  They are all in My Music folder.

So I'm not sure what I would need to import.

There was also a problem with the linksys adapter wanting to go in G Mode and that is not compatible with the Tvio.

So if you're using a linksys G router it maybe forcing it into g mode, there is a fix and that is to change the settings in the router. But there is not an option to do that so it must be done manually on the browser address bar.

If you're using the g router this was talked about in the Official Tvio Forum

Nope.  It is wired ethernet.

No problems with Tivo Desktlop and tivo seeing my files.  I just don't know what I am doing wrong with JRiver.

Is it pointing to a directory that has nothing to share?

It looks like the library in the MC interface is my "default" library (it has a check mark next to default).  And the library in media server says default.

If I search for Local Media server, it fails.  Is that something?

Can you tell me what you see when you open the media server?  Is it pointing to default library?  If you "search for media servers" does it find anything?

You first need to create/import your MP3 files (and other audio formats) into Media CENTER so that it can build a library.   Within Media Center, you can edit tags, organize your MP3s, set up various ways of accessing Music (by Genre, by Album, etc. which are called view schemes).  The view schemes are accessible on the TiVo through Media Server, so you have the benefit of looking at your library however you want -- not just by directory structure as the TiVo desktop shows.  Also, if you make any changes to your library in Media Center, make sure to stop and restart the Media Server for it to reflect the updates.

Hello Josh,

I got your email....here is what I did when I had this problem.

Make sure you are not running any other applications on the port that Media Server uses (80 is default).  Shut down Media Server and run the following command from a DOS prompt:

netstat -an

This will list all the network ports that are open on your system.  If you see port 80 (or whatever port you have Media Server set to use) anywhere in the list then you have another program that is conflicting with Media Server.

I've already moved everything and set up a library in Media Center.  That's all done.

I can't really tell if other things are using port 80.  I really need to get this rectified.  Tivo w/o Media Center is not worth it.  With it is.

You can also download a freeware utility called Active Ports for NT/2000/XP systems that will tell you all of the ports open on your systems.   The URL is http://www.ntutility.com/freeware.html.

Install this for a easy way to see what ports are open on your system.  With Media Server turned off, you should see no other programs using port 80.

Go into the options and make sure you have TiVo enabled on Media Server.

Cut and paste the output messages here if you still have a problem.

In the Tivo HMO section of Media Server options, I have "Support Tivo HMO on port 8079 (with beacon on port 2190) checked.

When I restart I get:

09/05/03 17:16:53 - sharer ready to accept connections
09/05/03 17:16:53 - Started auto response thread on port 5556.
09/05/03 17:16:53 - TiVo HTTP ready for connections

Could I have something wrong on my network?  I wouldn't think so since the tivo sees Publisher just fine.

Also, my J River is the 30 day trial.  That shouldn't matter, right?

I ran the port scan and here is what I found.  I think Media Server is only thing on port 80, but it has no local ip.  Is that my problem?  If so, how to fix?

Tivo beacon is on 2190 with no ip.

Tivo Server is on 8080 and has local ip of 192.168.1.100

Sorry I am such a novice.
