Media Center 9 tryout problems
« on: October 09, 2003, 02:17:54 pm »

Well,  Media Center 9 looks really nice but I don't know if I'll be able to use it or not.

I downloaded the test drive today and when I launch the application it
lets me start to add mp3s to the library then abruptly closes down.

I just got my iPod today and was planning on using media center with it since I remember how much media jukebox sucked when I used it on my wife's computer.

Help?  If I register a copy am I likely to continue to have this problem or
is this just related to the test drive not liking my machine in some way...

After I uninstalled media center I put on the xplay demo and it worked fine for copying files over but I'd really like an integrated prog that does tag cleanup and playlists and all that...

Please post your system info from the MC -> Help -> System Info dialog.

If you aren't using MC 9.1, please upgrade because there have been many improvements since 9.0.

Thanks!

Ok, I'll reinstall and send you that info.

I'm assuming I had 9.1 since I just grabbed it today off the download link on the jriver website.  I'll do this as soon as I get home.

(Heh... I left  work to make sure my new Ipod didnt languish on the front porch... grin...)

I strongly suggest uninstalling XPlay before continuing with MC9.  They don't like each other (or, haven't in the past)

You may have a bad MP3 file.  We'd like to see it if you can find it.

Try importing half your library at a time to see if you can isolate it.

On the half that won't work, try half of that, and so on.

Ok... I'm thoroughly puzzled now...  I grabbed the latest beta and can't reproduce the problem at all.  Sigh...  Thought it IS very nice to know that i DO definitely want to register this app... (grin)

As someone who used xPlay until buying MC9 about two weeks ago, I can tell you that Kurt is correct. MC9 and xPlay really don't like each other and xPlay was causing a lot of problems for me, so it has totally been removed from my system.

Oh yeah, you'll get no disagreement from me on that...  ::)

Xplay worked fine for me to accomplish the one thing I needed when Media Center was misbehaving.  it let me quickly copy a ton of mp3's onto my new iPod so I could head back to the office... (grin)   It really didn't have any of the other features I wanted so I uninstalled it.

But just FYI.   I didn't have either MC9.1 or Xplay installed at the same time.  After the dire warnings I'd seen about having MediaMatch installed I figured that iPod  utilities would probably step on each others toes...

You could also try http://www.ephpod.com/ for getting stuff onto your iPod.

I've been using it for a year or so w/o problems.  Thinking about switching and using MC, but the other works well at the moment.
