DVDSpy?
« on: May 31, 2003, 12:00:14 pm »

Is the DVDSpy plugin compatible with Media Center?  If it is, how would I go about registering it and configuring it?  Short of a LCDC plugin for Media Center, I think this is going to be my only option for getting song information to my VFD screen.

Thanks for the help!

Try a search here.  phatphreddy installed it, I think.  I don't recall if there were any details, but it did work, as I understood it.

Yes it is compatible with MC9. I've got it working pretty well with the Girder LCD plugin.

After you download the DVDSpy package from the Girder website, make sure you read the README a couple of times. You have to install a couple of shared libraries in different places, then register a DLL file.

After that, look to the example GML file included with either the DVDSpy or LCD packages to get some readouts on the display.

Best,
Brad

Thanks Brad,
Any words of wisdom on getting it up and running?  Things that tripped you up, suggestions you have for improvements, etc.

Words of wisdom...

I took it slow. I'm a Mac user in real-life. I only use Windows to run MC9. That being said, the instructions for installing DVDSpy, the LCD Driver, etc., etc. were accurate, but it took a couple of times through reading them for me to understand about registering DLLs and other files.

I started with DVDSpy & XPOSD to create an On-screen display. I then moved into driving my external VFD display. I ignored all the stuff about disc recognizing and other programs and focused solely on MC.

If you end up have specific questions as you work, go ahead and post here! :)

Best,
Brad

Cracked it!!!!!

Stupid $%^  :P that I am - I was trying to set the stuff up whilst music was playing to test the script
If you stop MC, make the girder change and then start MC

If anyone is interested in a Girder GML that shows MC artist, album, track, elapsed, duration, etc with DVDSpy and LCD girder plugins let me know and I will mail it over

....... happiness is a working VFD and the No.1 Media Centre!! ;D

Thanks I've mailed him to see if I can get a Beta copy and help out

Wish I'd bought a bigger display now that the 2x20 is working!
