buffering idea
« on: October 13, 2003, 07:41:08 pm »

Hi,

Is it possible to buffer more data in decoder part not at the sound device part?

The reason I'm asking this is that I'm having sound popping problem.  The source of my problem is file server.  It cannot response on time sometime if it has heavy I/O load.  The remedy is increasing buffer size of sound device.  However, this makes MC9.1 less responsible for skip, stop, pause, etc.

Therefore, I'm thinking this from opposite side.  If MC9.1 buffers decoded mp3/ape data, can MC9.1 keep both responsibility to user requests and smooth sound?

I think older APE plug-in in 9.1.247 is buffering little more data than current version.  I had very less popping with 247 and before.  I understand making APE plug-in more responsible is the improvement, but...  Please think about my buffering idea.  Thanks in advance.
