License won't work
« on: October 11, 2003, 12:57:56 pm »

i just bought media center and when i execute the installation key it just tells me "Error restoring Media Center license: Failed extracting license from file." It would be an understatement to say i'm irritated that i spent 40 dollars and not even the faq can help get the product registered so i can use it.

Please be patient, someone from J River will help you. They check the board constantly every day. The people here are very helpful & always endeavor to resolve any problems/questions you might have.

You must download MC through IE, there are evidently problems downloading with Netscape.

I think they have been having some problems in this area as of late and i think it was somthing on the server, not sure if this is of the same problem.

The installation is automatic.  When you purchased, it should have installed it.

Make sure you are using a current version of MC.

Details are here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

Use IE when you visit the license page to restore.

No, I don't think downloading is a problem with Netscape.  But IE is now the standard browser and the only one we check against.  Other browsers may or may not work for license restores.

The server was upgraded last week.  There are no known problems at this point.

I had the same problem last night.  Nothing I could do would get the license to install (with the same error).  Finally I just resored again (using another restore) and the downloaded file worked that time.  FYI, even when I selected "Restore From Internet" and put in my reg code, I STILL had to point MC at the reg file, it didn't do it automatically.

Were you using IE?

I am having the same problem.  After installing at work I went to use my license to install at home and I am getting the same error.  I ended up using up two of my restores because of this.

The file that is pushed from the web server automatically works fine.  It’s the file sent via email or the file that you can download via the link that doesn’t work.

I had the same problem. The license file issued via email won't install. So I digged into it and found as an end of line character the 0D 0D 0A sequence thru out the entire file. After stripping one 0D character, the installation works fine.

The file is sent from here with only 0A chars (linefeed terminators).
Is something on your machine adding the 0D (carriage returns, windows style terminators?).

Can you verify that it happens BOTH with the e-mailed file and the downloaded file (right-clicking on the link?)

Thanks,

j

So far, here the two cutouts:
he license file received via t-online tool and t-online as provider: (installation failed)

I'll check the download asap

Is t-online tool a download manager? That may be the cause of your problem.

Hi UdoS

Can you mail me your license file that fails (DON'T POST IT) to gateley at jriver.com?

Thanks,

j
