Congratulations on your big news, whatever it may be.

I'm going to offer my guess as to what the Big News could be about, and it's just a guess.

On 9/25/03 Dell said:

Dell Media Experience is an application that will soon ship standard on all new Dimension desktops. It enables consumers to use their PC to manage digital media such as photos, music, digital videos and DVDs. Dell Media Experience is designed to be an important tool for making the PC the nerve center of the digital home.

Maybe the JRiver team just found out that Dell selected MC among the competing designs.

Now that would be BIG

That would be nice. If it's true, then I'll stop uninstalling the Dell media software (MusicMatch) when we get a new system in at work. :)

Here's to hoping for it being something like MC9 providing the interface for an online music store  (non WMA based), so I can ignore Itunes....

Can you please give us an idea when to expect an announcement?  I want to check out the Itunes music store, but I'm not a big fan of AAC; I'll hold off if I know you guys are going to announce something soon  (Even if it has nothing to do with an online music store), but if this is something that's going to happen in 2004, well, that's just kinda mean....

Here's a screenshot from the Nov 2003 PC World of what the Dell software looks like:

Digging a little deeper, I read that Dell's new Media Experience software was written by Dell and CyberLink Corp.

Oh well, my guess looks like it won't pan out, but that would've been a nice deal for our friends at JRiver.

My money's on a music service deal to set MC up as a full-service media  tool. Everybody else is jumping on the bandwagon....

I only know of one music service that makes sense and is available to JRiver and that would be eMusic, but lordy, I hope that's not so. I'd hate to think that JRiver played a role in killing the best thing on the Internet....

So I'll hope I'm wrong and that JRiver has linked up with someone else....

We've finally got a deal signed.  We've been working on it for about 6 months.  It's big.

So this afternoon, we're loafing around.  I just bought a couple bottles of champagne for the team, to go with the wine that Cmagic so kindly contributed.

Sorry you can't be here.  Many of you have contributed immensely to our success.

Cheers.

So what ever was this announcement?  Was it just a tease?  A joke?  Did I miss it?

I hope the "MC9 to MusicStore" connection is *seemlessly* enabled.

I will NEVER use WMP as my library management tool, especially with a dedicated client like MC9 to compare to...  WMP as an interface is wayyyy too clunky and slow...

Looks like you do NOT need to subscribe to BUY music...that's nice/.  WMA file format will be a drawback...but I think I saw some MP3 conversion plugins...  I did not check them out...'cause I could not find them again in the "interface".  d'oh!!

The strange thing is that the message from JimH saying that cct1 was close has disappeared.  It had a link to one of the retail giants who is apparently getting into the online music store business.

I guess we have to keep waiting for the official announcement.

I was at JRiver world headquarters on 10-17-2003. (ask anyone but Jim, he was gone)

I seen the whiteboard.

You didn't.

Ha! Ha!

Here it is again:

Two screenshots from an old MC build back in August (have a close look at the navigation tree):

Finally a link to the thread in which I had pointed that out, but Jim never commented on my observation, of course, and no one else seemed especially interested at that time:

The music library over at BestBuy MusicNow (FullAudio) has some *familiar* elements:  ;)

We're measuring to see if the snowman will fit in KingSparta's new car.  The door's in front, so he'd have to lie down.

It's probably better that the heater doesn't work.

While we're all speculating on the future, I do have to bring up a question about the past:

Jim, where exactly did ICE/TCP fit into the development cycle of MediaCenter?  :)  It was about eight or nine years ago when that canoe first graced the shelves of my workplace, when we licensed about 30 copies of this Telnet/FTP/TCIP stack.

I am wondering what the point is to mentioning "big news", and then leaving everyone hanging.  This type of thing always seems to stretch into eternity.  Thirteen months from now, we'll get an "update" that says "All I can tell you is that it involves 1's and 0's.  Hooray!"

Reminds me of Blizzards continuous announcement that "The v1.10 patch for Diablo II is in the final stages of testing, and shoud be available very soon", which lasted for nearly 18 months.

Please, just tell me when I can have it, whatever it is.

Sorry, did I just say that out load?

I meant, congratulations!
