Media Center 9.1.280 available
« on: October 16, 2003, 04:27:02 pm »

Please read carefully before downloading.

This is the latest build.  There may be some known (and unknown) bugs.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter9_1.exe

The latest build of 9.1 is here:
[this build was pulled because of numerous problems -- JimH]

Please report only known problems in this thread.  If you want to discuss changes in the UI or make requests, please use another thread.

History:
1. Fixed: MC didn't always get the proper length for low bitrate mp3's. (use Update Library From Tags to correct)
2. Fixed: Doing a "Save This View For All Locations" wouldn't always propagate properly.
3. Fixed: Action Window "Burn" and "Handheld" images looked a little blurred at full size.
4. Fixed: File Transfer (burn / handheld) animation would have the wrong background color.
5. Fixed: Folder selection dialog would paint path twice. (one partially covered by the other)
6. Changed: Update Monkey's Audio encoder to 3.98. (Unicode friendly, fast verify, etc.)
7. Changed: Image file field now user editable. (so Find & Replace and other tools can be used on it)
8. Changed: Added progress dialog to several file property tools that didn't have one.
9. Changed: Added "Hairstyle" to the main View menu.
10. Fixed: In remote control configuration list box, numeric keys (0-9) were showing up as '27000'.
11. Fixed: During remote control training, duplicate key codes were getting received in some situations.
12. NEW: Remote control plugins updated for MC 9.1 and made available on plugin website.
13. Fixed: During installation, Media Center was not correctly associated with default media types.

...And remote control configuration doesn't include options for rating anymore.  Maybe they just got lost and you can slip them back in  ;) ;) ;)

The Quality does not stick if you have changed it from the default.

Are you closing the dialog with the OK button? (we can't reproduce this)

Hmm maybe it's the encoder I am using.

Ogg Vorbis
Normal/High

After updating MC it reverts back to.

Ogg Vorbis
Normal

If you can't reproduce this.
Heres what I did, before installing this build.

Tools/Options/Encoding
.\reset Quality to Normal/High
.\Clicked OK
.\Quiet MC

Applied update
.\Went to Tools/Options/Encoding
.\Quality was reverted back to Normal

Hopefully you can reproduce this.

Exit MC, both in Mega and Mini, give me the message that "Media Core has encountered  a problem and ...."

Can't change to new Mega skin. Get the same message here. After that I can fire up MC with the skin selected.

Can go to Mini and back though.

I have this problem since .279

When clicking on Playing Now in the action Window, the playing now song is off screen, it starts showing the song what's next to play.

This happens when you have more songs in playing now then the length of the action box.

The first screen of the install is the file associations page -- at least on a fresh install.  It's a bug, but just ignore it and you'll be alright.

Same here. This happens for me during install, and also on starting MC itself.

MC also said it couldn't connect to a server when checking for updates on startup...

I finished re-ripping my collection last night, so now it's not that important if I can't power-rip. I loaded .280 and tested power-ripping. The problem is still present:

Although I'm done ripping my collection, I'll test any changes you make to enable power-ripping and report their status. Since I don't need power-ripping, I will be able to keep using the most-current beta version.

I can't search in 'My Computer'

It keeps popping up that 'Gathering Files' after every single keypress.

Dam' I've been waiting for that one for so long! Thanks guys! Could we even get a dedicated key shortcut?  ::)

How's that music store coming along? Is it for .281?  ;)

The latest build of 9.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91280.exe

I get an InstallShield/Wizard GPF after it unpacks the files, but before showing me the Express/Custom page.  Happens on two XP boxes.

  • Renaming / Moving view schemes revert back to default views! (groups)
  • View schemes with the same name in the same group act funny until a rename.
  • Favorites do not update when renaming view schemes!
  • Cursor sometimes doesn't show in view scheme properties.
  • Right-click paste doesn't do anything unless you left click first!
  • Visualizations / Track Info doesn't update with http streams!
  • Horizontal scroll bar is hidden in track infos when auto-hide is on!

I reported out-of-proc automation problems in .net (c#) earlier

the problems are still there in 9.1.280

if I start MC and then my c# application, everything is OK.
if I stop my application, playback stops or MC crashes

it never allows a second connection
mj=new MediaJukebox.MJAutomation(); fails...

Media Server seems to start up in a window which doesn't go away (I think this started in Build 278), and it doesn't seem to be sharing when it starts up. I had to manually start sharing for it to work...

I did 2 clean installs of 280, and each time when I went thru Options to setup my mp3 codec it would say none was installed and ask if I wanted to dl one.  After selecting Yes to install the LAME mp3 codec it appeared the install completed properly but then a Media Core error appeared (both times) with that "report to Microsoft" dialog then MC9 exited.  Restarting MC9 did show the coded as being installed.
