Cover Art Finder questions
« on: October 19, 2003, 02:23:41 pm »

Is there any documentation or FAQ for KingSparta's "Cover Art Finder"?  I think the built-in cover art finder in MC9 is great, but am wondering if I can use KingSparta's to get higher resolution covers than MC9 downloads.  And, if it does, can it do it entirely in "batch" mode - unattended?  Also, can it be set up such that MC9 will use it to find covers going forward, instead of the low resolution covers that it gets now?

Thanks!

King:

Thanks for the quick reply.  That's got to be some kind of record.

Ok, so as I said, I'm interested in getting higher resolution covers than MC9 is getting now.  (This is for use in NetRemote).  I was kind of thinking that that was the main point of your cover art plugin.  Is it not?  If so, then what does it give you specifically that MC9 doesn't do already?

I think 500x500 is higher than what MC9 is getting.  I don't know what the resolution is that it gets, do you?  Must be a lot less than that - looks like about 100x100.  Can I tell your finder to use the highest resolution cover it can find, and replace the one in MC9 with that?

To clarify my earlier question - I wanted to know if your cover art finder will replace the builtin one, once it's installed.

I  have No Idea What NetRemote Is

It Does That Already

On Some Sites You May Find Small Cover But Maybe Not A Med Or Large

So The program will start with the small, then try for Med, then large

if you don't like what you get from site 2, or 3, turn it off and and get from site 1 only, if you don't like how it does pass 2 or 3 turn it of or modify it.

it will not replace MC9's Art Finder

King:

NetRemote is a pretty nifty program for remote controlling MC9 from a WiFi connected PocketPC.  www.netremote.org

But, that's not what I was saying.  I wasn't saying I thought Cover Art Finder was for NetRemote, I was asking if it was for finding high resolution covers.  So, what exactly ~does~ Cover Art Finder do that the built-in cover art finder in MC9 doesn't do?  Is it so that you can get higher resolution covers?

You will find more covers that MC9 will not find

Ok, I downloaded it.  Now what?  It shows me the songs from what's in my "playing now".  So, to update cover art for all my music, I should start playing ~everything~, and then click on "Batch Process"?  Ok, so I did that, and it seems stuck.  It found the cover for the first song in the playlist, and now it's just sitting there...

Sorry for peppering you with all these questions!  If there's a thread somewhere that explains all this, I'd be happy to read through it on my own.

Thanks!

you do have many questions, it is not all that complex.

1. put files in playing now (they do not need to be playing)
2. go to plug-in
3. push the batch button

it should find the art, it should not stop.

if it seems like it gets stuck it maybe that one of the sites might be down. it will continu to work but will be slower. you can turn off site #1, #2 or #3 in the setup page to see if it will be faster without one of the sites.

No, besides real men don't need directions it is normaly handled by trial and error or if you hurt your self you will bleed and you then you know not to do that again.

Yes, well, sorry I couldn't intuit what the program does.

It does seem to be hung, not slow - I'm running on a broadband connection, and it's been sitting on one song for at least a half hour.

Oh well.

Ok, I stopped it and restarted it, and it made it a little further, and seemed to lock up again...  I'm on 0.0.12.

And (and please don't bite my head off), I do have more questions.  Maybe it's because I'm from New Jersey (old Rosanne Rosannadanna reference...)

Do I need to clear out my existing cover art that MC9 found, in order to have yours replace it?  (Remember that my goal is to get higher resolution cover art.)

What are "sites 1, 2, 3"?  If I'm going to disable them, it would be good to know what they are.

Thanks for your help, King!  Maybe someday you'll use NetRemote (I'm a collaborator on that), and I can return the favor.

i don't think so, don't know why it would be stoping unless it is hitting an error of some sort, (you may not see it because it should trap all errors).

I can't tell you in the forum, JimH will cut another part of my body off

I don't know what to tell you, i just ran it thru 14,000+ files and it worked fine for me.

Gotcha.

I grew up in Montclair, now live north of Boston.

Ok, well I'll keep slogging away, then.  It sure is acting like it only tries to download cover art for albums that don't have any.  What does it mean when the status line says "Local pick, waiting..."

thats correct

it found a picture on the drive that matches the artist and album name or it found folder.jpg in the folder where the media file is from.

Ok, so I ~do~ need to clear out existing cover art, if I want your code to replace the cover art with higher resolution bitmaps.  You had said "I don't think so."  So, how do I clear out the existing cover art?  Do I just need to delete the files, or, is there something I need to do in MC9 itself?

Thanks again,
Rosanne

My Mistake

Quote

depends where your cover art dir is.

normaly c:\program files\j river\media center\data\cover art\

don't delete the dir but you can just copy the files to another dir or somthing like that.

or you can just select the option in mc to remove the cover art from the file and drive

Ok, I moved the cover art files, and told MC9 to "remove cover art" from my mp3's.  Now, when I click on "Batch Process", it locks up.  I let it sit for an hour, and it didn't wake up.  I then disabled "Site 1", and it made it through two albums and then locked up again.  So, it would seem that there is an issue with "site 1" (do I care?)  And, could it be that if it can't communicate, or it doesn't find an album, that it locks up?  I've never seen it put anything in the "failed to find" list.

Thanks.

I guess you might want to leave it alone since you seem to be having too many problems and i am not sure why you would and no one else as reported the problems your having.

if you figure it out let me know mfarmer1@nc.rr.com
