I have a slight but annoying recurring issue. I run MC9 Server on a Win2K Server box and slave some Clients off it (running on XP). The Win2K box is local security, no active directory.

After several days, when I try start a new Client, I get a message that the library can't be found. Existing Clients with loaded remote libraries can still stream, but new Clients are not being served the Library.

When I check the MC9 on the Win2K box, it suddenly thinks it is a trial version, or not registered. So when I try to quit and restart the Media Server, I get a popup error asking me to register.

The solution is to log out the local Win2K session, and log back in. This is a pain.

This may be Windows-specific, something to do with login session lifetimes. But it is annoying.

Is there a way around this? Some stupid Windows group policy I can set.

Or is it possible to get Media Server to start as a service, with default Admin privs on bootup of the Win2K Server.

can you copy and paste the status messages on the bottom of the screen? (settings->show status if they are not visible).

Is it the client that thinks it is not registered, or Media Server?

It's the Media Server that becomes deauthorized, I will wait for it to happen again and grab you the error messages.

WHen this happens, if I quit and try to restart MC9 or the Media Server, they tell me that they are out of the trial period. They will not even let me re-apply a restored license.

Okay, so I waited and it happened again. The main symptom of the issue seems to be that the "MJ Server Library.zip" collection of Media Library files no longer exists in the root MC directory.

See below for the output of my quick debugging session:
(I have since upgraded to the latest 9.1.x build)

This is an upgrade from Media Jukebox, hence the directory names.

MS -> Options -> Library is blank

"Load"... => "no library selected".

The 'MJ Server Library.zip' file is no longer in the root directory.

Quit MC9 and restart =. "Sorry but you do not have enough rights to run the program. Please make sure you have at least Power Users rights"
(Logged in on machine as a User with membership of Administrators Group)

Hi Meehawl,

I think an external agent is deleting the zip file, and changing permissions on other files. Nobody else has reported this, so it's probably not a Media Server bug, and the issues with licensing are often caused by other programs.

Do you have an automatic cleanup routine that removes .zips? What else are you running?

There are very few other services running on this machine -- it's plain vanilla Win2K Server box. Doesn't even have a sound card! It runs IIS 5 and Media Server, that's it. I Terminal Services into it every few days to check on its progress. Aside from the RAID Manager software, there are no other management programs installed.

Okay, so I was on vacation for several days and when I returned I noticed that the MC9 (v180) on the Windows XP Pro machines now have issues with authorization.

Specifically, I tried to resume playing a file (that was paused) and it crapped out, claiming that it could not play any of the files in the playlist.

I am playing them not from the Media Server but from a mapped network share (M:\).

When I option-clicked them and Located on Disk, it popped up a Windows Explorer file window correctly.

So I quit the MC9 on Win XP Pro and tried to restart the program. I get this message:

"Sorry, but you don't have enough rights to run the program. Please make sure you have at least Power Users rights."

I checked, and the current login is still a member of the Administrators Group, and I started and stopped a few system serviced to check my privileges. They are fine.

MC9 was installed (and upgraded) by this user account.

I am running local user management, no domain controller, no active directory.

Media Center seems to have issues with aged user roles or ACLs.
