Tremendous photo. Its a horrible thing to be caught up in. Ive said it before, its an amazing place but thank goodness I live in a country where we dont get forest fires, hurricanes, earthquakes etc. What a price to pay for all that beauty.

Still trying to persuade my better half to go back next year though. Florida - huricane season or not - here I come (hopefully)!

well in a few years California will be part of the ocean so land cost should go down a bit.

I might be able to afford a holiday home there when that happens. But there were nice beaches where I grew up. What we didnt have was deserts...

Hey - Florida is second choice really, but I cant figure and sell a 2-ish week circular rental-car route around the Great Lakes and via JRiver HQ for my free copy of v10. Any ideas? Of course dream choice is a Thelma-and-Louise-style-road-movie-coast-to-coast-route-66-type experience. But I cant persuade wife to play Thelma to my Louise, and I certainly couldnt play Brad Pitt...

Why not go for music, SF  11th Street/Folsom   Paradise Lounge, Holy Cow, Slim's....just for a weekend (without wife)

Funny.  I lived about 20 blocks south on Folsom in the early 70's.  I wasn't quite hip enough to be a hippie, but I had a really crumby old pickup and a big old dog.  We went everywhere together.

Hmm, the only hippies I saw this days where at Ashbury/Haight. (It's a surreal picture if you see an old hippie about 60 with all outfit and a walker like I did, but there are lots of young ones again)  The area around Folsom with it's clubs is more zevele's taste today, but there are some very funny local's you'll never expect there.

Highly unlikely. As soon as that barren dry desert becomes the new Malibu Colony, land values will skyrocket.

And speaking of San Francisco, in the mid-80s my first apartment (after living 2 years in the dorms at SF State) was one block from the corner of Haight/Ashbury. Back then I used to go to live shows all the time.

I got forwarded a good aging story today. I don't forward but I do cut and paste.

For all us old codgers:

While waiting for my first appointment in the reception room of a new dentist, I noticed his certificate, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered that a tall, handsome boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 30 years ago.

Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This
balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate. After he had examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended the local high school.

"Yes," he replied.
"When did you graduate?" I asked.
He answered, "In 1967. Why?"
"You were in my class!" I exclaimed.

He looked at me closely and then asked, "What did you teach?"
