How About A "New" (Sort Of) Option for Move Copy Fields?

I also want to use stuff like [Artist] [Album] etc and have it convert on copy.

Maybe have an option to use calculated fields in copy too.

I think it would be very useful, and would like to have also the possibility to remove characters from certain positions.
Example:

Before: 01 Danny Boy
After:    Danny Boy

Go on with your great job

Well Today I Started A New Project

Old Time Radio (OTR) Tagger

Still Playing With It But

It Will Look In All Fields And File Name For Program Dates

Like

Lone Ranger - 1941-07-30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 41-07-30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 1941.07.30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 41.07.30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 1941_07_30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 41_07_30 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 19410730 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3
Lone Ranger - 410730 - The Line Through Red Rock.mp3

In The Fields It Will Look For All The Above And

41/07/30
1941/07/30

I Currently Have The Info Saved To The "Album" Field Like 1941-07-30

And Then It Also Corrects The Date (Year) Field

========================================================

Along With The Above It Corrects Common Spelling Mistakes Made By Users Who Type Info Into The Fields

========================================================

It Also Changes The Genre To "Old Time Radio"

========================================================

As I Perfect This Program I Will Add More

Anyone Have Any Ideas? (If You Collect OTR Files)

Yeah I agree, was thinking of making a plugin to do it myself but I'm really getting fried off with the problems I'm having setting them up so they just install correctly on systems :(

Making this plugin would take two seconds :(

The easiest and quickest solution to this I would think would be simply to allow calculated fields to be copied using the copy/move dialog.  That way you could set up a temporary field with the calculated data you want to show/merge and then copy it across to the correct field and remove the temp one...

I'm not saying that wouldn't work just thats its a complete new feature whereas copy/move fields is already there it just doesn't allow calculated fields to be copied at the moment...

NoCode :)
lol - just to be picky - technically yours doesn't exist either and would have to be 'added' - Both yours and King's have the underlying code in place already and just need to have the ability to do it added.

For yours all you need is the ability to copy Calculated fields.
For King's all he needs is the ability to have the same function that calculates the 'Rename from properties' filename set up to instead of renaming the file - to save the same string it makes into a field.

Underlying code for both exist and his is definitely an easier solution!! lol.

King : 1
NoCode : 0

Let the games begin!  ;D

KingSparta, can't you already do some of the clean options using find and replace?

Find "," replace with ""?

Just a thought -- haven't tried it.

P.

we are talking about combining fields and apending to the front and back of whats already in the field not just search and replace.

where you can do basic search and replace you can not do anything more complex.

Well if the underlying code is there for both then I would say that is 1 - 1.  And I can see merits for both options.  So why not implement both? ;D

Oohh you're a tough cookie...  I will remember this the next time there is a debate involving one of your feature suggestions :P  I can still see places where copying calculated fields is useful aside from Kings suggestion.  I agree in this case Kings is more practical if it could be implemented I just thought it would be easier to implement using calculated fields.  I bow to your superior knowledge of the MC source code ;D  Next time you are hacking it could we have some DJ features added in too ;D

LMAO!! :)

Ooopsss - I'm sorry!!!
Dont vote against me :(

Once I finally work out how to make installers for plugins I'll try make some basic advanced playback controls and build them into 'Auto Equaliser' - call it 'Playback Control' or something original - will that do?

I'll give us A-B looping between spots (presuming the SDK lets me)!

No red card!!

I'm thinking of making a plugin to do this anyway (the actual plugin is going to be designed mainly to allow fields to have a default value (any time new files are found without the value it will fill them in) - so I'll just extend that to do this too.)

Just gotta work out how to make the plugins install properly! :)

Sounds good.  I considered trying to do this myself until I saw how the SDK worked and balked at it... :)

One of these days I will get round to understanding it...in the meantime I'll let the real coders get to work :)

What's this I read?  Nila is against adding two features instead of one?  I think JRiver might have finally got around to adding subliminal messages to their visualizations!

What?

Merges two fields together into one??

Lol - ur asking me to do it? My installers never work and it'd take like all of two seconds to throw together.

If u want me to though I will - I take no responsibility for faulty installers :) lol

Okay Nila...I am afraid it has come down to nasty tactics.  I am deducting your point for the misspelling of arguing.  It has no e... you should remember the rhyme from school, take off the e and add ing...

Adam

P.S. Sorry, the primary teacher in me still rears its ugly head occasionally :D

So you get a point for spelling correction then!

It's:

King : 1
Nila : 1
NoCode : 1

It's a draw!! Game over (quit before the arguements start!!) - nice diplomatic time to end it :)
