OT - Unusual way to organize 5000 pictures!
« on: November 03, 2003, 01:02:20 pm »

Hello,

this is a really smart program done by a German student from the Technical University of Chemnitz. What does it do?

http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~dabr/htmlparts/newindexhtmls/projekte/sub/mosaiccreator/

1) You select one image of your choice.
2) You select your complete image library.
3) The program now creates a big mosaic picture by joining all images of your library together according to their color scaling, so that the big mosaic resembles the one picture selected at the beginning. This is really a very unusual way of organizing your image collection. See the web site for a sample and the free software to download.
4) You may print the whole mosaic on a very large piece of paper.
5) The more picture you have, the better!
6) Enjoy!

I'm not sure I'd consider that "organizing" my photos, exactly... but it is kind of cool.

I actually have a couple of posters like that. One of Darth Vader, and one of Boba Fett.

Yes, I'm an (Original Holy Trilogy) Star Wars fan. Sue me. :P

LOL me too Doof.  We used to have the Yoda and Darth Vader versions in my stuent house...unfortunately they belonged to the landlord and he took them with him :(  I actually have the software though that was used to make them.  You feed it a film in any format and it goes through and creates small thumbnail pics from every 14th frame.  You then save these an image collection and feed it a picture and it creates the poster.  Pretty cool but not overly practical ;D
