Playing Now v1.2
« on: November 05, 2003, 02:56:43 pm »

UNINSTALL ANY OLD VERSION OF PLAYING NOW PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.

Here's a screenie showing some of the major new features in this version (transparent background and playback positions):

Here's the link the the MC plugins page:

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/downloads/mcplugins.pl?type=10&start=0&end=10&page=1

Here's what's new since 1.2 beta 2:

1)  Added ability to write the logging thumbnail to a temporary file (only usefull when scripting).
Read the UseTempThumbnailFilename entry in the documentation.
2)  Added ability to set the current skin as the default on the right-mouse menu.
3)  Can now place ratings vertical ... check the Horizontal entry in the documentation.
4)  Fixed issue where dragging a non-blend popup then hiding it would snap back to the original location.
5)  Fixed issue where blended popups sometimes "flashed" when hiding.
6)  Fixed issue where rating alignment was not working
7)  Made sure saving the image is single threaded to prevent the possibility multiple calls.
8)  Logging script is now passed the filename of the logfile as the first parameter and if UseTempThumbnailFilename
is set it is passed this also so the script can delete the file.

Check the Version.txt file in the installation directory to get a list of new features since v1.1.

Here's what it says at the top of the page:

8)  Logging script is now passed the filename of the logfile as the first parameter and if UseTempThumbnailFilename
is set it is passed this also so the script can delete the file.

And in the documentation:

Setting: Script

Description: Specify an optional script that is executed after logging has finished.   The script is passed the name of the log file as the first parameter and the thumbnail as the second (if thumbnail generation is enabled).   If the name of the thumbnail is passed and UseTempThumbnailFilename is enabled then the script must delete this file when it is finished with it.

Who knows ... but I am going to play around with alpha blending a bit more in the next day or so to see if I can get shadows.

Rhino,

What version number should be being displayed inside MC?  I tried installing 1.2 as I thought I had removed 1.1, realised I hadn't so removed both and reinstalled 1.2 bu tinside MC it says the version is 1.0.1.0 I think (I am at work atm).  Should it say 1.2.0.2?  If so I am going to have try and completely uninstalling rebooting and then reinstalling.

Cheers

Adam

(Is there any way to know if I have 1.2 running?  Was the timing feature a 1.2 feature?  If so I think I may have 1.2 after all as I have this...)

Rhino - could we have a way to disable either the pop-up at the beginning or the one at the end?
I keep rating the wrong song by accident because the pop-up changes half way through (comes up for the ending then changes to be the one for the beginning of the next song)

Thanks!! :)

You have this:

Setting: PopupAtEnd

Description:
This specifies at which point before the end of the track PlayingNow should popup to display itself.   The number is in milliseconds.   Setting the value to 0 will not show the popup at the end of the track.

The popup always shows at the beginning and that's not going to change.

Figured that might work for us both!

That: PopupAtEnd wasn't in the config file which is probably why I didn't know about it :)
I've added it now and set it to 0 - thanks!

You mean the one that's at the beginning of the thread?

You already have it.

Bring up the popup and right-mouse click on it to get the menu.   Check the skins menu.

is there a way to play the previous or next track by clicking on the arrow that appears before the next/previous track in Drowbe's skin ([banned]) for PN2 ?

i am not referring to hot keys here..i am talking about directly clicking that arrow ( ^ ) or (arrow points down)

umm....for those that dont...could you pls add this functionality. Make sure u confine it to the icon...so that it does not get clicked inadvertently.

when i saw the arrows in drowbe skin, it felt almost intuitive that it would do that.

another suggestion would be clicking on the track name itself, replays the track.

just some thoughts...i wonder what other PN fans think of "other" clicking behavior in addition to rating in PN:)

Does anyone remember someone uploading a .wav file so when PN pops up, a bubbling sound would happen?

I think it was LisaRCT that posted it...(I think)

Hey Rhino :)
Just say this thread:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=16714
and followed it to have a look at the program.

Between customised taskbar and your plugin it copies it exactly pretty much.

One idea it gave me though was it might be REALLY cool if we could set playing now to show one skin while the song played, then change to another on the song change - so you'd have a slim skin constantly showing with some basic info and then it'd change to a more full info skin at the end/beginning of each song.

It'd be really cool.

Just an idea - no idea how you've done the plugin so not sure if it'd be hard or easy - basically just be able to set two skins for the plugin?
Hard to do? easy to do but not worth the effort?

Just thought I'd suggest it :) lol

Hope your havin a fun weekend - work tomorrow :(

Don't have to add anything since you can specify any MC database field by enclosing it in quotes, e.g.:

Rhino, kudos on your exceptional enhancements to MC once again! (though I really wish you hadn't so abruptly deserted work on AV, while MC continues to advance itself in it's functionality, it doesn't even come anywhere close to the thumbnail functionality of AV, and AV still has some small but unfortunate bugs, like dates).

But I digress, I love PN.

One thing: When I used win-ctrl-p to disable the pop-up, I still got the pop-up sound. Just thought you should know.

Thanks again for your stellar improvements to MC, keep it coming!

Hi Warren,

I'll fix the sound for the next version.

What's the date issues with AV?   I've got a new version to load up soon anyway so tell me and I'll see if I can fix the bug.

Oh cool,

It's been a while, but I remember when trying to assign dates AV would take them, and upon restart of MC AV would crash mediacore, and the current AV database would be corrupt and have to be rebuilt. This may have been an issue with the dating status of MC itself , I'm not too sure on that though.

Thanks,

I think I fixed it but never released it as I checked the current changelog:

1) Added HTPC mode ... accessed via right-mouse/View menu
2) Added ability to create Xbox/XBMP .TBN files from artwork (in Tools/Extract Artwork)
3) Fixed issue with crashing when grouping with 8-bit character sets
4) Fixed issue where AlbumArtist was always being used as the album artist instead of just Artist and was ignoring the global option
5) Fixed issue where crash occured when setting the date of an album.
6) Fixed issue where the colour of the track info pane was not being set property for notes/lyrics.

And I tried it here and it works.   I'll get this version out tomorrow for you guys to play with.

You have this:

Setting: PopupAtEnd

Description:
This specifies at which point before the end of the track PlayingNow should popup to display itself.   The number is in milliseconds.   Setting the value to 0 will not show the popup at the end of the track.

Rhino,

I understand you already helped Nila with this but I am having trouble getting the balloon not to pop up at the end of the song.  I have read your help file and am still not understanding it completely.  If you could help me futher I would appreciate it.

Hi  nathanchavez,

If it pops up when the time offset is negative then it's MC pre-moving the currently playing now track.

If it's not that then give me an example of how it's behaving, e.g. track is 300 seconds long and the popup displays at 290 seconds stays on screen for 10 seconds then reappears, etc, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean...so I'll just give you the whole popup section in your ini:

[Popup]
Poll=500
ShowHotkey=Win+P
ToggleHotkey=Win+Ctrl+P
Skin=Adaptive
ExcludeExtensions=vob,mpg,mpeg,avi,dvd*,mov
;HideOnRating=True

And then I think this is what you said to do to have PN only popup at the song begining:

PopupAtEnd=0

I could be wrong...

Never mind.  I am the biggest dork in the world.  It seems all I had to do was to enter "PopupAtEnd=0" under the popups listings, as you said, and then simply restart my system.  I was not restarting my system when I saked you for help.  Thanks

Very cool plug-in!  I have a couple one bug and one suggestion.

Bug: Every time I restart MC, my PL skin resets to the default.  I keep changing it to [banned]v.3, but it keeps changing back

Suggestion: I know you said that the popup at the beginning would not go away, and I assume that's because it would be a pain to do so, but having it only pop up at the end makes it easier (less annoying) for me to rate the song, because I just listened to it.  I can't rate a song at the beginning, only after a listen.  I realize that some people want to see 'what's coming up', but that is listed in the skin when it comes up at the end.

I know you probably can't change it, and that's totally cool, but if you could, I'd be very happy about it.

Thanks!

To make the skin stick u have to first chose it - then go to the menu again and chose - set as default - it will then stay.

Also - just chose a skin that has info for the 'last song played'.

It then plays at the beginning of each song and shows u the info for the last song which u can then rate.

Alternately - create your own skin and make the main display info be the 'last track' with the minor track being the current track!

Found a bug of sorts...

If I have .mp3 added as an included extension, but then try to play a file with an extension of .MP3, the PlayingNow popup won't fire.

So basically, PlayingNow is case sensitive in this regard. :P

Hey Rhino, my tags all have the reviews from AMG inside the comment tag. I have a large PN skin I created with enough space to fill in the review, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the review to wrap, or is this even possible? Basically, I've got the top line of the paragraph and then it cuts off into...can I get this to wrap into paragraph form?

Thanks,

I've only just installed this and... wow... it's excellent.  Thanks. :)

Only problem is, most of my tracks come up with "Last played: -317249:33:08 ago" or some very similar number (the last two numbers change).

Is this because I do most of my listening on my iPod (syncing details back to MC) or some other reason?  I can't see any connection between the tracks that give a correct time for Last Played, those which give this large number, and those which give something else odd (Last Played: 40.1 years ago!!)  I have the date & time set correctly on my iPod.

Sounds like an MC issue.

I just use the standard MC GetFormatedLastPlayed function to get the text of when the track was played.

Have a look at the tag info for the track and see what MC displays as the last played.

Hi,
It'd be cool if there was an option to stop the sound every time the song changes. I have deleted the wav file to stop it, but an option to turn it on/off would be tidier.

But cool plugin. Thanks,

It's on a per config basis.  Comment out the PlaySound entry in the Config.INI of the skin you are using.

I have to agree too... I can see the advantage in having a global 'sound' option, one: it saves a lot of editting of every skin (that has sound) that you get and two: if you change your mind and want sound back, you'd have to go back and edit all of those files again... easier just to have a main override option.

PS: Great plugin [ actually... I barely notice it as a plugin, it's an integral part of MC for me :) ]
