"Key Exchange failed" when trying to play DVD
« on: November 21, 2003, 12:24:22 am »

I get this message anytime I try to play any DVD in MC9.1.  If I then hit OK, close MC9, start up PowerDVD and press Play, it plays perfectly.  Any ideas?

Dunno, but it seems worth a bump...

Traditional responses may include:
-What version? Are you using the latest version?
-Have you tried reinstalling MC?

Yes, it's the latest "official" version: v9.1.308.  I haven't tried reinstalling MC from scratch, since everything else is working perfectly.  Would I lost any of my media library database if I reinstalled?

If you completely uninstall and reinstall you would lose custom settings, need to reimport your media, etc. Hopefully one of the J River folk can come up with a better solution.

I'd be pretty scared to reimport my media: I have 8,000 music tracks and hundreds of videos.  Apart from the amount of time it would take, I'd be worried that not all of my tags are updated, so I'd lose info.  I guess I could update all tags before doing the reinstall?

Still a bit too scary for my liking - everything is working perfectly except DVD viewing, and I hardly ever watch DVDs these days.  Swapping out to PowerDVD isn't such a hassle, but of course it would be nice to be able to uninstall it and use MC9 for everything.
