...

I downloaded the 30 day trial of media center 9.1 and it keeps exiting/closing when I try to import files also. I have 90 gigs of mp3s (I own 4,500 cds so I have a while to go ripping).  I would gladly buy media center if this issue was resolved. I like MC since it works well with my TIVO. I grabbed 9.1.309 to see if that made any difference and the same thing happens. I have tried it on two PCs now. Same deal - MC exits around 2800 files or so - is this some limitation? memory leak?

Here's my system info:

Media Center 9.1.309 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

Microsoft Windows XP 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
AMD Athlon 1522 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 1048 MB, Free - 513 MB

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106 / ComCtl32.dll: 5.82 (xpsp1.020828-1920) / Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1226 / Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1233 (xpsp2.030604-1804) / wnaspi32.dll: 4.71 (0001) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-2002 Adaptec, Inc. / Aspi32.sys: 4.71 (0001)

Ripping /   Drive D:   Copy mode:Normal   CD Type:Auto   Read speed:Max
  Drive E:   Copy mode:Normal   CD Type:Auto   Read speed:Max
Digital playback: Yes /  Use YADB: Yes /  Get cover art: No /  Calc replay gain: Yes /  Copy volume: 32767
Eject after ripping: No /  Play sound after ripping: No

Burning /  Drive D: SAMSUNG  CDRW/DVD SM-348B   Addr: 1:0:0  Speed:40  MaxSpeed:40  BurnProof:Yes
  Drive E: SONY     DVD RW DRU-500A    Addr: 1:1:0  Speed:24  MaxSpeed:24  BurnProof:Yes
Test mode: No /  Eject after writing: Yes /  Direct decoding: Yes /  Write CD-Text: No
Use playback settings: No /  Normalization: None

I hope this simple action issue can get resolved. I'm dying to import my entire mp3 collection.  Also is there maybe a Pocket PC client possibility? Plus I own a live 365 stream and am wondering if I can play it thru MC via a playlist?

Thanks,
Jeremy

We need more info on this.

Please try importing only MP3 files.  If you have other types of files, please import everything except MP3.

Do you tag with another program?  What is it?

I just Imported 20,000+ mp3s in version 9.1.308 it worked fine.

might be one or more of the mp3's has a problem, and MC9 just don't like it.

if you can find out what file(s) it exits on J river might want a copy of it.

so you can't like make and error log?
on error condition?

I'll try to do what was mentioned above (mp3 vs other types)
Not sure what taggers have been used.. mostly audiograbber
I try to automate them via a ripper.

Does MC perhaps log success and failure on importing files?
If this was an option I'm sure I can track down the nasty files.

------------------

just an update.. so far after switching it to import only mp3s it has gotten further- to 5,000 files..
this might have done the trick - then again I still think a good program shouldn't exit out/close out - should log it or error gracefully - my 2 cents  ;D

about 9,000 files done - it worked fine.. thanks for your help-
but I wonder what to do about the other files..

No, there is no logging.

I agree on gracefully handling the error.  We just don't know what it's having trouble with.

My imports are only with .wav - no mp3 for me!

I typically do small imports - usually one album or show worth.
1) Select files
2) Edit tags/fields
3) Rename files from properties (artist/album for dirs as well as filename)
4) Reselect files (usually all in one dir)
4) Import.
