MJ 8 & Win 98SE install problem
« on: December 11, 2002, 06:27:07 pm »

MJ 8 will not install & I'd like assistance if possible. Tried several times [even got a new d/load dated Dec 4], first closing down all progs as well as A/V & f/wall.
Have just done a clean install of Win 98 SE, on my Pentium 3, 800 MHZ, 256 MB RAM, with new graphics card GeForce 2 MX/MX400. This is the message I get when I try to install MJ 8

MEDIAJUKEBOX8 caused an invalid page fault in

Since it's failing right from the git go then it appears (however improbable) that your MJ download is corrupt.

Before trying another reinstall, go to the Adaptec site and download latest ASPI (v4.712). Install it first (if it goes well it will ask to reboot...do so). Now install MJ (from a fresh download).

10-27

PS: Install all the W98 updates first (if you haven't already)

Funnily enough, I was d/loading those aspi drivers when I posted - going to install now.  Fingers crossed.

MJ 8 still doesn't install.
The latest aspi drivers were installed,  but things remained the same as before.
Then I d/loaded MJ 8 again [9054 KB] also d/loaded & installed later version graphics drivers.
Now it seems to hang at the unzip, then brings up the message "Error encountered while performing operation. Look at information window for details."
But there's no info, just the unzip panel.

I've heard MJ's very good.  Have never before had problems installing things, so is there anything else I can do?  Desperately need a jukebox/encoder  & I dislike WMP.

Someone surely could have let me know about MJ 8's unusual [to me anyway] method of installing.
The failed attempts had created folders in windows/temp, & when I ran the Install Wizard executable from there, the licence agreement appeared, and then MJ did indeed install.
Presumably, a happy ending.

I think that one is a Microsoft issue.  Your temp folder was probably full and MS should have handled it differently.

Not so - Privacy Software's IEClean is very effective at wiping cache, temp. folder, MRU's etc - & I use it at least daily.  And when I noticed several "RarSFX" folders in windows/temp that had obviously been created by the unsuccessful MJ install attempts, I deleted these, ran RegClean & re-booted before attempting an MJ install again.
After that, the only thing in win/temp was the new RarSFX0 folder that had just been created, & from there I ran the Install Wizard executable.
