I just did some tests.

RIP TO

APE-fast
Windows lossless
MP3- VRB 192- Quality Normal/Hight - Encoding option: Hight Quality
OGG  Normal/hight

Rip and Encode simulta.... , no DSP effect

Unlike when not using Secure mode  , speed  is  almost the same.

Here are the maximun speeds i got--Maximum ,not average.

MP3 and OGG ==5X
WAV=========5+X
APE=========6X
Windows=====6+X

Is this normal ,or something wrong on my side?

In No Secure mode ,i got a 7-8X for MP3 and OGG
And a 12-16X for APE and Windows lossless.

I'd guess that the 'Secure mode' uses some additional processing in the form of 'bit-true checks' thus slowing the rip . . .  apparently some filetypes are more affected (ape and win loseless)

I would say that "secure" or "normal" has no influence on encoding-times, as secure or normal are attributes for the ripping-process and not for the encoding.

Your 2 cents make sens , really.

But i just tested again ,and no mistake.

Can be this :
Convertion to APE and Windows lossless is faster than ripping in Secure Mode.

So the convertion cannot be faster than the rip

Convertion to OGG and MP3 is slower than rip.
So both encoders can work at full speed .

And all convertions take more or less the same time.

Is this make sens ?

I think this perfectly makes sense.

Let's say the ripping process provides about 180kb/sek (1x CD-ROM speed) and the encoder can process 1800kb/sek - the encoder will be slowed down to 10% of its capacity.
If the encoder can process 90kb/sek, it can perfectly work on 100% capacity - but the overall speed ist 50% of the possible speed.

To put it more mathematical:

A = "providingspeed"
B1 = encoder-throughput 1

If A <= B1 Then Echo "Working full power"
If A > B1 Then Echo "Well, encoding with quality takes time"

If ripping with normal and ripping with secure does provide less than or equal the data of the encoders capacity ("throughput"), the time to rip&encode stays constant (in theory).

More or less - I think your explaination makes perfectly sense.

Encoding speeds are very different for different formats. MP3 Lame VBR alt preset standard is probably the slowest and WAV is the fastest.

The ripping speed is not affected by the type of encoding, only by the ripping method ie secure, burst etc
