Let say you want to rip your cds
They are new

Do you need to rip secure?

I mean to rip/convert is really slower.
I would say takes double time on a new cd
Because the rip is slow ,it cannot gives 'meat' to convert to the decoder fast enought.
Making rip/convert to APE much slower at both steeps.

Anyway ,speaking about my cds , it means that i have them.
If i have one song with problem out of few hundreds , i can re-rip - in secure- the song.

So ,in this case ,do rip secure worth?

Probably depends on whether or not a very occasional error (maybe not even audible) is a problem to you.  

If I were ripping a CD to an MP3, I probably wouldn't bother.  On the other hand, ripping to APEs, I figure it's well worth my time just letting it go in secure mode so that I'm confident that it's ripped properly.  Sure it might take longer, but I won't be surprised two weeks (or months) later by a song having a bunch of errors in it.

Well , let say you rip 2000 cds
And you got 6 songs with problem.
You just take the cds out and re-rip the 6 songs.

With secure rip at 4-5X and normal at from 13X up to 32X , it means A LOT of time saved.

This concerning cds that are yours.

If i got cds from someone ,in this case i use Secure.

I do not use APE
It was only to state that the ritual song "rip to APE first ,it is fast" does not stand with secure rip.

The time to rip is longer than the time to convert.
So ,rip/encode to any format takes allmost the same time

Here are the maximun speeds i got--Maximum ,not average.

MP3 and OGG ==5X
WAV=========5+X
APE=========6X
Windows=====6+X

I ripped ~200 CDs, mostly using EAC in secure mode.  On essentially all of those CDs, which were all in pristine condition, EAC indicated at least some read errors.  The two drives I used were both in excellent condition, and both of excellent DAE quality.  I probably would not have noticed most of those corrected read errors, had I not used secure mode, but who knows?

Just under a year ago I ripped 800 CD's, I'd lean towards Secure mode as that way I get to know when the rips are bad instead of when I listen to the MP3's for the first time.

I get the point.

Look like i will take the secure way.
Using MC.
If i rip to MPC , rip secure is slower than convert to MPC.
I would not save time using EAC.
And the less programs i have on my computer , the less i mess.

I couldn't agree more.  Secure mode is like insurance.  You may never need it, but having it gives you a nice warm feeling inside

If you concerned about time and you have two cd drives, I believe you can have two instances of EAC open and can rip from two drives simultaneously.

Yes - you can rip from 2 drives and let it encode with 4 lame-processes each. So if you own a 5ghz-P5-Megablaster-CPU you might get it to warm up.
