Ripping CD and YADB support
« on: November 29, 2003, 04:04:47 pm »

Each time I purchase a new CD and rip it into MC, I often do not see the CD entered into the database.

I have to enter the CD titles manually and upload the titles to YADB.

Usually the CD titles are available on the Web.  It is very convenient to CUT the list of titles off the web page.

However I can't copy the entire list to the YADB title data entry screen.  I have to copy the song title 1 by 1.  This is very inconvenient.

If MC can take a CUT list, and allow users to PASTE them into MC, it would be very useful.

that is a good idea

I dont see that it will happen however.

If i had better access to the cd CD ID etc ... thru the SDK i could make a plug-in to do this.

I dont see why it wouldn't happen King??

All they'd have to do is to parse the input and if they detect carriage returns then to put the next item into the next field?

It wouldn't be too hard to enter and would make a LOT of sense - especially as they're not letting people use other db's and are making them use YADB. I'd imagine they'd do as much as they can to try make it as easy as possible for users.

It wouldn't be too hard

I think JimH is scared (shaking in his boots) of what can of worms I would open.

along with providing info on how to access YADB digital finger printing and access to the YADB database thru the MC9\10 SDK

Pity - I was hoping to make a plugin that'd basically let CD's work offline for getting the YaDB info.

I was gonna get it to store the YADB ID into the comment field for all the files from that CD - then WHEN the computer connects to the internet it was gonna look up the CD and fill in all the track info's.

Need to do this because the machine doesn't have internet connection so it'd let me batch look them all up AFTER ripping them all.

You can put the CD's in BEFORE you rip, one by one, and then rip later when you're off line.

Yeah but which would you rather - sitting there putting 500 or so CD's in a drive, taking them out for each one.

THEN re-putting those 500 cd's into the drive and ripping them.

OR

putting 500 cd's in a drive, ripping them, then leave MC doing the work for me? :)

It all boils down to just wanting life to be as easy as possible for boring tasks. Ideally I'd like to hire some slave labour to do it all for me (anyone got a kid they want to punish??) but that's not going to happen so I figured this would be a good alternative.
