Hi,

I use MidiMan's Sonica device, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Extigy, but it is half the price and USB powered.

Check it out at www.midiman.com

Unfortunately, I have heard nothing but horror stories on the Extigy, mostly with support and driver issues.

The only good (perfect?) driver pack is from Sb128Pci. Audigy, Live have problems with the drivers maybe with the driver release for Live that came out a few months ago the problems are solved, Audigy 2 don't know yet ... Much Expensive :(

Been using Extigy for a while - I bought it the week it
hit the stores here in Denmark!

The reason I bought it was to get decent sound quality
from my notebook computer when hooked up to my
hi-fi sound system, and that has certainly been
accomplished. An added bonus was the remote control
which I'm using to control MJ from the couch :-)

Two problems I'm having with Extigy (on WinXP Pro):

1. Sometimes when my notebook boots the Extigy
soundcard is not enabled until after I power off/on
the Extigy; this only takes about 5 secs to fix so it's no
big deal.

2. Certain kinds of activities (like opening menus etc.)
will sometimes interrupt the sending of audio to the
Extigy which results in minor "pops" or dropouts in the
sound, which is a minor annoyance when listening but a
major pain when recording sound from the S/PDIF input
(DAT tape).
As a consequence I never touch my notebook while
doing recording from S/PDIF.

In review I'd recommend the Extigy, but it's not perfect.

I have an extigy connected to a high end laptop and a Yamaha RXV-3000 home theatre receiver through the digital optical connection (toslink) from the extigy to the receiver.  No problems with the drivers either and the sound is pretty good.    But what I really want and in my opinion is only really good solution for playing MP3's on a home stereo (for under $300) is the Turtle Beach Audiotron.  I have done a lot of research on this although I don't have any personal experience with the device.

I tried myself but didn't manage  ?

Thanks

Here's how to make the Creative Soundblaster Extigy
or Audigy remote control work with MJ8 (haven't tried
MJ 9 yet); I didn't come up with the solution - Lightchild
did!

Here's the original description:

Quote

Lightchild 07-10-2002 05:11:03 P.M.

Here is how I managed to use my RM-900 Remote Control working with MediaJukebox V8.0.318 and Creative RemoteCenter V1.40.14.
Configuration of RemoteCenter

General Tab

All these options are enabled

Enable Remote Center
Run RemoteCenter after Windows Startup
Show RemoteCenter icon on taskbar

RemoteCenter Player

Every option is disabled

Windows Applications

Select Enable control of other Windows applications

Advanced

Disable, Always run the default player when RemoteCenter is enabled

Other Configuration

You need to save the text below as a file called MJFrame.KEY this needs to be placed in your Creative RemoteCenter KeyMap folder

e.g.

C:\Program Files\Creative\RemoteCenter\Rc\KeyMap\

content follows in separate post

To use the remote control

1. Make sure the RemoteCenter Software is running
2. Start Media Jukebox
3. Use the Start on the remote control and select Media Jukebox from the menu
4. The remote control should now function !

Keys

1 - Home
2 - Playing Now
3 - Media Library
4 - Playlist
5 - Devices
6 - TV Tuner
7 - Web Media
8 - Add to Playlist
9 - Add to Smartlist
0 - Reshuffle
Stop - Stop
Play - Play / Pause
Slow - Rewind
Step - Fast Forward
|< - Previous Track
>| - Next Track
Mute - Mute
- - Volume
- Volume
Speaker - Mute
Display - Focus Window (TAB key)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will try to help anyone who has any problems, but it will be on a best endevours basis only.
I am happy for this information to be distributed as long as I am acklowledged.

Good luck,

Lightchild.

The solution works fine with my Extigy and RM-1000
remote control - I did however change some of the
key mappings to perform other functions, mainly toggling
fullscreen display on/off and toggling mini-me/MEGA-me:

[KeyEvent6956]

Notification=-1
KeyEventRemap=131141

First ,as you can see, you do not waste your time when giving me answers..one month and the half after i am still on it...
Concerning the Lab Sound ,i just saw it

--Digital audio standards supported MP3, WMA ---

Do this means that you cannot play APE,OGG and so on?

Beside it ,what i really would like is to be able to get sound from a USB plug ,but keeping my sound card and not having any software/hardware to install.
Is such a thing possible?

If yes do you know a site speaking about it?

I need to know the more names possible ,to try to find it here.
I do not want to buy it online from abroad- well if you tell me there is a $10 gear big as a cigarette box, ok i order it, but i would not order something big and more than $25 from abroad.

Thank you

Zevele, I'm not sure I understand your questions
correctly, but here's my answer anyway.  :)

The Creative Sound Labs Soundblaster Extigy hooks
into your USB port, and you can still keep and use
any internal soundcard(s) you already have.

You HAVE to install the Extigy drivers, but you don't
need to install all the software (I don't remember if
you get the choice of installing only the driver). The
Creative applications aren't very good in my opinion, and
since you're already using Media Jukebox there's very
little need for the Creative Play Center.

Whenever you plugin the Extigy to your USB port it
becomes your default soundcard, and when you unplug
it your internal soundcard becomes the default.
It works well with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, but
I haven't personally tried other Windows versions with
the Extigy.

If your application supports choosing your audio output
explicitly then you can use your internal soundcard even
if the Extigy is plugged in, if that's what you want;
Media Jukebox and MusicMatch Jukebox can do this, but
I don't think you can choose the output soundcard in
Windows Media Player.

The Extigy will play anything your application cand send
to it as Wave output or AC3 output, so e.g. anything you
can play in Media Jukebox, MusicMatch Jukebox, Windows Media Player,
or similar applications is OK including APE and OGG; the
Creative Play Center however cannot play APE and OGG
files.

--Digital audio standards supported MP3, WMA ---
I saw it today on Cnet when reading again about the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Extigy.

You may not had understand 100% my questions ,but you gave me a very clear answer and told me all i wanted to know -really- and a great thanks.

So there is not hardware to put inside a computer ,just a driver to install- this is ok to me-

I use at 99,99% Media Jukebox.
Sometimes i play music with MusicMatch  because i like the sleeve in tiles on the full screen-can be nice when you have friends-
I never use Windows MediaPlayer .To the point that now running Windows Me ,i use a program to uninstall it and put WMP 6 instead.
Will install Windows 2000 next week.
To be able to play throught both souncard is also good news.
When listening to radio talk shows ,i do not like the sound from my stereo system speakers .
Now i will change to inside souncard== computer speakers.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

By the way do i need to tell you i plan to buy the Extigy very soon?
