Bug fixes in 10 applied to MC 9.1?
« on: December 09, 2003, 11:18:45 pm »

I've seen a few bug fixes in v10 betas that relate to bugs that exist in v9 also.

When do we get these fixes applied to v9.1?

We will now only fix "show stoppers" in 9.1 --  (disastrous bugs) -- I don't think there are any left.

However, a major advertised feature (WMA streaming ), stopped working several buids ago.  Will it ever be fixed?

This is NOT true.  MC 9.1 crashes all the time, usually caused by problems in visualizations.  I run MC 9.1.316 on three (way different) machines and it has problems on all of them.  On one, it takes out the entire machine if you so much as allow the visualizations to run for a minute or more.

Neither is the "no fix" any longer acceptable.  I've been biding time for the better part of a year, having bought MJ 7.2 and MC 9, for a product that actually works - to no avail.

Even less serious problems, like the refusal to recognize that the CD has been changed following a rip, or the fact that if you eject a CD while its playing you get sent to dialog box Hell until it gets put back, ARE show stoppers to we who are trying to convince our families that they too can operate the HTPC.  If ANYTHING goes wrong while they're using it, well I'm back to square one.

This product has tremdous potential but the only way I'll pay for another MC upgrade, which I'd like to do, is if bug are fixed in the current shipping product.  Otherwise, I'm on the treadmill forever.

I think what he means is that if known bugs are carried forward then the upgrade charge effectively becomes a subscription.

Plus from an SDK user's point of view if known bugs are not fixed in the production release (e.g. GetField) then we are forced to write plugins that can only be used with the beta releases which narrows down the target audience.

This may be the problem.  Win98 and WinMe machines may just not be enough, especially if you're running 3d visualizations.  I'd suggest starting a thread on this to see if others can help.  There were some Win98 memory fixes that helped some users.

Unfortunately, downloading skins can now be a show stopper :P

I have had similar problems with 3D visualizations on my WindowsXP SP1, with Radeon 9800 Pro, P4 3.2 , 1GB DDR RAM, and all the latest drivers.

Reminder: MC/MJ are sold as supporting WinMe.  To say that WinMe is the problem is to say that's not really so.

Which is it?

And so just now:

"MediaJukebox has cause and error in PLAYBACKENG.EXE.  MediaJukebox will now close...try restarting your computer."

Happened in the midst of ripping while changing disks in the DVD drive.  I always have to load the drive twice because MC doesn't notice the CD has been changed even though it ejected the previous disk.  This time it faulted an trashed my ripping session.

This machine is an Athalon XP1700 with nVidia nForce2 board from Shuttle with 512 MB of PC2100 DDR RAM.  It crashes running visualizations (never use 3D) all the time.  My HTPC is a 700 mhz Via C3 with PC Chips board and only 128 MB of PC100 SDRAM.  It doesn't crash running visualizations, but often it will crash when you're changing CD's or it will just not come up cleanly because of a fault in MC9.

I keep WinMe updated reqularly.  I don't run a bunch of add-ins.
