still trying look at all tag information
« on: December 12, 2003, 07:45:00 pm »

I see lot of things here, sure would be nice to have them available in the media libray where it could be sorted by the differnt heading, especially the Comm settings. It would also save a lot of space if they could then be seleltivaly deleted ( what good is a music match bio) If I cannot read it in MC?)

I will try and ask a differnt way..  Does anyone know how to look at all of the fileds stored in the ID3v2 tag (like in a spread sheet form).  If Media Center cannot do it, is there another program what does?   Thanks.

why not?  (I think it's always nice to have as much information as possible)

It would be nice to get the space back for one (if it could be deleted)

also would like to see if ID3v1  match ID3v2 , could help clean up artist name etc.

Anyway.. Thanks for aksing why?

yes, but also still would like to see, the things inside comment fields as well. doing it one file at a time doesn't allow you to group like items (sort)

I see, If I Am Not Mistaken This Can Not Be Done Thru A Plug-In.

but i can see how this would be usefull when working with tags.

DR Tag has a switch where you can swich modes [1] [2] & [1/2]

To see both ID3V1 and V2 on same screen, you might try TheGodfather.  It is a freeware tagging program.  Find at www.cyperpunk.gr/tgf/

Also for V1 and V2 you might try mp3/Tag Studio which is shareware.  Has annoying ads for TurtleBeach in free unregistered version.  Can find at www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts

Thanks DMC-A1

found "The GodFather " at http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/  Not as easy to use as MC nor as fast..  but has a lot of Tag features..

Mayber version 10 will offer more features for tagging.  the more I read the more confused I get, but seems like it would be good to SYNC the ID3v1 / ID3v2  tags. (but I would sure like to see the differences first)

Why. Cause it seems most playes use ID3v1.

Yeah, I agree The Godfather is no where near the program MC is.  But you can use it to get a better idea how tags work. It will extract song info from AMG from within the program including genre, styles, tones, etc.  But I haven't figured out how to get MC to read the standard extended ID3v2.3 tags like styles, tones, etc. into its database.  But you can see the new tags extracted via The Godfather in MC's "File Type Info". :)

I wish MC could distinguish between a CBR and VBR mp3. Right now there's no way to do it.

The file info dialog in foobar2000 will also let you see (and delete) all tags for all selected files.

KeystoneCop

You can see Bios that you put using MM.
I'am on MC10 now and did not try.

But with 9 most of the tracks info show the bios.
But ,if i remember well , not all.

One who show then is the one going with the mega-skin yellow and blue.
Give it a try

Thanks,

It looks like the Artist Bios Finder by KingSparta is adding the MusicMatch_Bio to the comments.  (This is ok by me)

Sorry King, maybe that's the standard name for BIOS, it just confused this dummy (ME)

I still would like MediaCenter to compare ID3v1  to ID3v2, and show me the differences.

Sorry.
I posted in rush before going out.

Of cause with the King plugin.

Tell me ...good news ,no?

I have also TONS of bios using MM to do it.

I used MJ-MC at the time, but used- and still use SuperTag.
And used the SuperTag interface -- much much friendly than MC- to put bois as well.

To find out ,AFTER, than they are not show in MC...

Anyway ,thanks to King ,once again

MC keeps ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags synchronized.  You can fine tune how it works in Plugin Manager > MP3.

MC can also remove tags.

If you want a clean slate, remove the tags and do "Update Tags (from library)" all from within MC.

First .. Thanks Matt.. I understand MC can make then the same.

What I am trying to say, and NOT DOING IT. I would like to see both tags to see what's different.  I am probably the only one in the world who has this desire, so I will drop it, and move on.  It just doesn't make cents ( i have no sense)  to me to overwrite something without knowing what's there.  If i have a diffent artist name I sure would like to know it.  anyway thanks  for your time and energy.

Well, two things.

The first is that MP3 is the only format that has two tags.  And what if we start writing APE tags to MP3s sometime?  We'll make a big mess of an interface trying to show everything. (especially since they should all be synchronized anyway)

The second is that even if we made a way to do it, should a user have to deal with tag formats?  I mean, why should they care?  You've said yourself how hard it is to come to grips with all the tagging formats.  MC's approach is that you shouldn't have to be anal about the tagging formats because it'll keep things right.

Also, many of the changes in 10 so far have been to tagging -- new tagging mode, auto-complete everywhere, UTF16 ID3v2 support, etc.   Your criticism about us ignoring tagging isn't very fair in my opinion.

Thanks KeystoneCop.

1st. I don't think we are on the same page.  I love MC.. I think your doing a GREAT JOB.  (I am paying for my upgrade (and I hate to shell out bucks)..  I am simply asking for the ability to see whats in the tag information fields contained within the mp3 files.  (I have read a lot of post on tags , so I am sorry if I offended you or anyone).. WOW I now understand stress .. Maybe I need an interpreter

Is this possible? It would sure make my life easier! I realize there are issues regarding commas, but a search and replace should take care of that easily...
