MC 9.1.316 TV Tuner Hangs
« on: December 21, 2003, 01:24:56 pm »

Hi,

I have a Windows XP P4 System with a
Haupagge TV - PCI Tuner Card .. which is supposed to be supported.

I've reloaded / updated all of the Haupagge Drivers and Software.  The Hauppage TV Software works fine.

The problem is when I try to use the MC Tuner, (Selecting a Channel - or - Scanning ) the system shows the "Starting TV" Box ... but hangs and I have to kill MC.

If I  have the Hauppage TV application running - and then try the MC tuner ... I get a different error message. - "preview graph has not been built". ... This  does not  'hang" the system. - but MC tuner still doesn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Improvements have been made to MC10 in this area.

I don't think that's one that has been changed.  I believe it is a driver problem.

Try a search here and on google for Hauppauge and for "Hauppauge" + "drivers".  I think there is a third party driver that works.

Most likely this is a driver/setup issue. But have you tried Reset? (Click Options->Reset Device, before you try start TV, then exit and restart MC TV).

What version of Hauppauge driver do you use (you can give me the file name of the Hauppauge driver update file)?

You can not run two different programs on the same device.

If I hit reset ... I get the following error message

Initialize() must be first called with a valid HWND before calling any other functions.

Try deleting this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\TV Settings

It seems that you have a corrupted installation of MC. Try uninstall and reinstall MC.

The problem appears to be with the Haupauge Driver.  I had what i believe was the latest driver version 3.35.21125.   It didn't work.  I did try a "third party" driver and it did work with MC....  However, the Haupauge TV application then stopped working.   I re-loaded the Haupage Driver after trying the "third party" driver ... back to MC not working ... and Haupauge Application back to working!

It would be nice to have the real Haupauge driver supported by MC.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV PCI card too and the drivers work fine with MC.  I CAN tell you that when you go to scan for channels using MC9 you have to wait for it finish scanning the channels (maybe it's 10 that does it, but I can't remember).  One of them will make MC seem like it's frozen but it's really not.  What happens when you just let it sit there and scan?  Just give it a try...

The apparent freezing has been seen in MC9 and earlier builds of 10. With the latest builds of 10 channel scanning has been redone. There is no more apparent freezing.

"Real Hauppauge driver" does not neccessarily mean "best driver". Hauppauge drivers have always been problematic.

Have you tried whql337_21163.exe (Hauppauge's 3.37.21163, whql version certified for Windows XP). This is the version that I have used most recently. Give it a try.
