Failed to initiate Media Center purchase
« on: December 24, 2003, 05:31:41 pm »

I'm trying to but the MC 10 upgrade for $10 for almost 2 weeks but I keep getting the same message every time I try and buy the upgrade...

Failed to initiate Media Center purchase

I've tried to do this on several versions of the beta with no luck...

have done the following to try and fix the problem...
...re-install MC...then buy MC
...re-store license...then buy MC
...completely uninstall MC then reinstall then re-store lincense...then buy MC
...completely uninstall MC...then buy MC

But always get the same message

I have 18 days left on my trial and would like to purchase an upgrade from v9 to v10 for the $10

Plz Help

Is Internet Explorer your Default Browser?

If Not It May Need To Be For This To Work.

I've probably missed out on the discount upgrade because of this same thing, but I still want to step up to the latest and greatest. I tried to upgrade last month and ran into the "Failed to initiate Media Center Purchase" roadblock. I jumped through a few hoops then decided to just stick with the previous version and deal with upgrading later because of hectic holiday madness and people coming over who would need entertaining with music and movies.

I'm just now getting back to trying v10 and, though several builds have come and gone, I still hit the wall with the 'failed to initiate' error. How can I get past this barrier I have to upgrading? From above it looks like not having IE as default browser may have been the problem for the OP, but IE6 is my default and only browser so that isn't what's affecting my situation. Advice?

Do you have admin rights?

How many network connections in your control panel?

Yes, installation and upgrade purchase attempted with administrator privileged account.

One network in control panel (Local Area Connection) (Assuming you mean Win XP Control Panel. If you mean something in Media Center, I'll need to be enlightened.)

BTW, I tried also with software firewall and Norton AV disabled in case they were interfering. I even disabled Google Toolbar pop-up blocker on a long shot. No luck.
