Hi All

I've been trying to back up my CD copy 'Tubular Bells 2003' by Mike Oldfield. It's a copy protected disk, which I know can cause problems.

This Forum pointed me in the direction of Easy CD-DA Extractor...but even that won't copy it


I can get the title of the tracks on screen, but it keeps telling me 'copy has failed'

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong...or of there's a more powerful version around?

Have you tried Exact Audio Copy? Do a google on it. Worth a shot.

Same problem I'm afraid,,,the copy protection is sooooo good, it doesn't even recognise it as an audio cd yet it plays fine on my CD player

There's the black marker trick which worked on earlier CP disks. I've also heard that Plextor drives can rip disks that others can't. You might find an answer over at Hydrogen Audio...and possibly the CDFreaks.com site.

I've got a copy of TB2003 and managed to rip it using CDex - http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Downloading a copy is worth a shot, but ultimately your problem could be a drive issue.  If you're going to do a lot of ripping, then it's worth investing in a Plextor, both of mine (in two different machines) have extracted the audio from everything I've tried so far...

No, it still won't recognise the tracks as AUDIO..just data (I did some checking - apparently the disk is protected using Cactus 200 - whatever that it!)

I've been ripping for years and have only recently discovered albums that are copy protected. It hadn't entered my head that the DRIVE was a variable in the argument

I've tended to use unbranded burners in the past and in truth it's never caused me a problem (mainly 'cos the disk's are NOT copy protected)

Time for an upgrade I think!

Not true...

I have the 197(4) vinyl release that preceded (AFAIK) the Exorcist release. Is this 2003 release a remake or a remaster? What's you guyz's impression of it compared to the original?

It's a remake - opinion seems to be divided amongst fans as to whether it's a rip off or an opportunity to use modern technology to revisit a masterpiece

I'm with the second view personally
