Hello,

I have a suggestion for an extra feature in kingsparta's artist bio plugin :

I don't know if you get the biography information from www.allmusic.com ?

for most albums there is also an AMG album review.

It would be a nice feature if you could add that information to a different ID3V2 field (for example the comment field)

(p.s. just f.y.i the plugin complains about v10 not being recent enough, but it works anyway)

Regards,

Marcel Houweling

I had asked about this a while back as well.... I guess you can't have a plugin for everything or you'd be doing that forever,,,,

I have most of the Album reviews now for my cd's... It takes a little while, But when your listening to music, it doesn't seem that long

I have a question...  what are the sources for getting metadata?  Do any work with SOAP messages?

yes, and beleave it or not i do have a life.

I currently prefer to play with My Colection Of OTR files

Trying to hunt down lost shows from back in the 40's and 50's is not easy

i found someone with 50,000+ Otr files so i am a bit busy

plus i am really tired of this plug-in stuff in vb6 if i ever figure out vb .net maybe i may play around again with them.

================================================

as for the bios program i would recomend uninstalling first, delete the install program you already downloaded then try again.

I have this program working tested it 2 times and it does not give that error.

Scott,

Knowing how much you love XML ;D have you checked out musicmoz??  I am an editor there.  It is kind of a open source all music guide bought about by the DMOZ people.  All the meta data can be extracted for free as xml...  Might be worth checking out...

Interesting...  though I didn't see a way to query the database with something like a SOAP message.  I think it would be neat to have a MC plugin that merely creates a query based on a library selection, sends the query to an external database (like musicmoz), retrieves the resulting metadata and populates the library accordingly.

Merely...  yeah, I guess that's a bad choice of words.

Basically you can extract any relevant data from a section by adding index.xml to the url stream...so if you go to say my Pearl Jam Page and the album Ten, the url for the xml stream is http://musicmoz.org/Bands_and_Artists/P/Pearl_Jam/Discography/Ten/index.xml.  If a plug in could be written that could use data in the MC library, format it to fit the format of the music moz url and then parse the xml, all the meta data could be referenced.  I don't think it would actually be that difficult...the only problem is that music moz is still in its very early stages at the moment and therefore is not as complete as all music.  Therefore I encourage everybody to apply to edit a page for one of their favourite bands.  That way the data will improve...

Ah...  I didn't catch that the first time.  Not exactly a query, but if you know the Artist and Album name for sure, one could easily build the URL.  Cool!

If Scott_r. writes an MCXMLImport plugin. maybe he can see about adding a way to extend it to work with music moz.

But *all* of this stuff with XML would be much easier, and much more powerful if JRiver added a way (API) to access the library directly as XML objects.  The big three database guys have been doing this for years.

Depending on how diligent the particular editor is some of the artist entries have huge amounts of info...

Unfortunately some of them are also quite sparse :(

Still it is very much in its infancy so can only get better :)
