Remote Server and Zones
« on: January 02, 2004, 05:09:08 pm »

Is it possible to choose which Zone remote server controls?

I find that it controls the currently active zone only.

So I guess that must be correct then. It does only control the active Zone.

That being the case how (other than for DJ cueing) are zones useful? How are the rest of you that use them remotely controlling what is played in each zone?

I know I can use media server but running all zones from 1 PC appeals to me.

Have a look at my webpage. That should answer some of your questions. Then browse to the NetRemote section of the page. There you see how to control zones independantly.

Thanks Mastiff, that's a big help. Great website. I was looking at it a couple of days ago.

What I really want to do is use Remote Server from my iPAQ to select the playlist/songs for the zone I'm in. I would like to have an iPAQ (or similar) in each zone.

As far as I know using Netremote or Remote server only allows control over one Zone. How do you control the songs for different zones?

I know I can do this with additional PCs but I'd rather not have a PC in each Zone.

You don't, in a way. You simply change zone with NetRemote, so if I'm in the bedroom I simply push the "Bedroom" button on my CCF. It works very well as long as I'm not competing with anybody in another zone to use it at the same time. Which is why I have been asking JRiver (along with a few other users) to give us really independent zone control, perhaps with more than one remoteserver.dll. Still, it works very well the way I do it, when I use the Ipaq or the PocketLoox (another PPC I've got around the house).

btw, and OT, what kind of bike do you race? I have a pair of Yamaha RD350s, one of them is about to be rigged for vintage racing.  ;D

It's a GSXR600 K3.

Well, I guess I'm to chicken to be called a real racer, but I do like to drive fast. My personal best is around 280 kph (real kph determined with the RPM, the speedometer showed more) with a souped up GSXR 1000 on the roads in Northern Norway - they have extremely long straights over the arctic plains there, but taking corners in that speed is not really an option...  ;D
