Turn off new visual view header?
« on: October 26, 2004, 08:32:27 pm »

In MC11.0.108 this new feature was added:

Quote
9. NEW: Added visual view header to playlist and CD views

Is there a way that I'm not seeing to turn this off?  Its an okay feature, but when I use MC on my TV it takes up WAY too much space.  I would like to see it work like all of the other "panes" in MC, resizable and whatnot, but more importantly, can I turn it off?

It's a useful feature if you're using playlists to group documents or video resources. It would be better if the notes could be formatted over multiple lines.

I can see how it could be annoying though - it would be nice if that display was optional for each playlist.

Any word on this?  I am currently busily converting all of my Smartlists over to standard View Schemes because of this change, which avoids the issue.

I actually decided that I prefer to convert the Smartlists to View Schemes anyway (because you can populate the tree and all that), but there are still some cases where it would be nice to be able to enable/disable the new view header on a case by case basis for the Smartlists.  Particularly for some of my large Smartlists ... It can take a long time for the top thumbnail to generate and change if the list is sufficiently large.

  • Absence of alternatives clears the mind nicely.

The view header can be hidden by double-clicking on the resize bar just below the window. Double-click it again to unhide it. This turns of the view headers for all plalylists and persists between sessions.

The view header is a new window that displays above playlists (and elsewhere?) and displays the playlist title, # of songs, notes field and a random thumbnail from the playlist. Hovering the cursor over the thumbnail causes it to cycle through that playlists images in a mini-slideshow.

There doesn't seem to be any way to modify the view header in the skins yet.
