Automation batch file required!
« on: December 03, 2002, 04:09:52 am »

What I have is a special built pc sitting by my stereo with a wireless network hookup to my main system that has all my media on it. I am looking for a way to automate the startup of the stereo pc as well as the shut down. Startup seems simple enough in that I can hit the power button and windows will load and somehow or other I can use a command line startup for MJ that will let it connect to last. So far all I have had to do is hit one button. Now, after I have listened to my music, I want to shut the system down. Is there a way to link, inside of a batch file, the fact that I have alt-f4'd MJ that will allow windows to go down at the same time? Or any combination of key stroke/batch file that will kill MJ and then windows? I'm hopeing that there is someone out there that still knows about batch files etc.
Thanks, Glen.

There are plenty of command line utilities to shut windows down.  There's even a version in the Windows Resource Kits.  Do a google search on "shutdown" and you'll see a few.
