My MP3-Files are stored in a directory with the name "Jukebox/...". Everytime import is started in MC, MC remembers me that this name is not a "recommended" (maybe this is not the exact wording...)name for a directory. What does this warning mean ? Do i have to rename this dir or what can i do to suppress this alert ?

I suspect that this is because you are importing from a different drive.

Once you acknowledge that it's OK you shouldn't see the message again.

I understand it to be a warning just in case you start scanning a drive by mistake.

Nothing to worry about.

no, it's the same drive with the dir name "jukebox/...". I understand it in the same way, it's only a warning, but an annoying one! Everytime i have to click it away...and everytime i start a new import it comes back...

I don't think a forward slash in a directory name is allowed. Can you post details of the full directory name and path.

So then it is suggesting that it is not recommended to perform an import in your Program Files directories.
You could either relocate your library folder -or- simply continue to ignore it. I imagine one of the negative effects is the possibility of importing oodles of wav & bmp files from within the program folders.

It's me again....
I tried to ignore this "This is not the recommended Directory..."-Checkbox. But it is really annoying to press "ok" for every import, the more i do not know the reason for it. So i renamed my musicfolder into "C:\music mp3\", updated my sync software aso. Next import the same ...box asked me for confirmation. Please, what is the reason for it, and what can i do to switch this box away except of pressing "ok"...

I wonder if the message is not coming from MC. A plug-in?

Does the \jukebox directory still exist? If so, try deleting it.

What is the exact error message?

Error message:
"You are attemting to import from a directory which Media Jukebox normally exclude. Are you sure you want to import from 'C:\Music MP3\'?

Yes / No"

Yes yes yes !

-No Plug-ins
-Mediacenter 10.0.38, not Media Jukebox as in the Error Message, but i think that's a forgotten one...
-the dir c:\jukebox\ is deleted

Using Tools/Import Files/browse I can import files from a directory named C:\Music MP3 without any similar message.

Two possibilities I can think of:

1. There is a directory under that directory that is causing problems
2. There is something odd about the properties of the directory or its contents

Try this.

Rename your directory to something else
Make a new directory with the same name
Put a file in it
Try importing

What happens?

Jim, i am very lost ?

MC is running on three PCs.
The directory structure and the files are the same.
On the first PC the files and sub dirs are stored in the directory "C:\Jukebox\" - no problems

On the second PC (the main one, which causes the problems and which hangs on the amplifier) the files and subdirs are stored in the Dir "C:\Music MP3\"

And a third one, a laptop with an USB Hard-Disk MP3 Player which behaves like an external Harddisk. The files and subdirs are stored in the root.
I syncronize the three machines, so the files, the file structure and everything is exactly the same.

On the main PC i can rename or copy the files into other directories, only the one directory with the name (at the moment) "Music MP3" causes the problem.

Jim, before you waste more of your time, i will try build up the file structure from zero, and copy one dir after the other. Let's see what's coming up...I will keep you updated

I get this box everytime. I tried everything, moving, removing, one file in a new directory, a file in the root...

Only 3 Things I can think of

1. Something happened a while back with this directory and MC just refuses to forget. Have a look through the registry. Maybe do a search for Music MP3.

2. Completely uninstall / reinstall MC. Keep the data folder somewhere safe. Put it back after the reinstall only if it's not that that's causing the problem.

3. Matt does a search through the source code for the error message you reported and gives you a clue as to the cause.

JLee, thank you very much. After the "?" fom Jim, i lost every hope...

To your remarks:
1) I have the same thoughts, but i don't know the search string i have to look for in the Registry because i can change the name of the dir as i want.
2) Yes, i wanted to do that. I just waited for the 10.0.41 (two birds with one stone...). The thing with the data-dir is a good hint. I will try in the evening.
3) This would be great. Maybe the ? was the starting shot for Matt

Might sound basic,
but have you tried deleting the desktop.ini inside the folder?

That is something that would remain in the folder every time even after you rename it.

Windows Button + E (open explorer)
Make sure you have it set to view 'ALL' files including system ones.
(Tools, Options, View, show hidden files and folders - checked, hide protected operating system files - unchecked).

Now go into that folder and see if you can see a folder.ini
if you can delete it (You can then set those options back to their original value if you want).

Now see if it's still doing it!

Uwe. The ? just meant I didn't understand your post.

Check other directory settings in MC. You may have temp files set to something non-existent, for example.

Check all settings for all plug-ins. Remove any unused plug-ins.

Right click on the folder (C:\Music MP3) and choose Properties.

Are any of the checkboxes for System, Hidden, Read Only, or Archive checked?

If so, uncheck them and try an import again.

Thank you all for your support.
I tried everything. I did not have installed Plug-Ins etc. I tried a lot (or all)of the settings in MC and Windows.
Then i backed up my data-directory and uninstalled MC.

Completely but not forever.

I installed MC 10.0.41 then i start a new Import and

yeep, yeep. MC started the import. I copied back my Data-Directory, started again a new import...all is fine !!!
Now i have to put in all my changed option.

And Jim, sorry when you don't understand everything what i write. I know my english is poor, but it becomes better and better with every two cents from me
