Ripping & Genre Issue
« on: January 21, 2004, 09:41:58 am »

Hello All:

First let me say that I am thrilled with MC 9.1.  Although today I have a bit of a concern.  I'm running MC 9.1.316 and encountered the following:

1)  Some time ago I defined the genres that I wanted to use in MC and got rid of all the rest.

2)  I have ripped my entire CD collection resulting in 11,262 files that MC is managing in 15 genrea

3)  I ripped a CD this morning where it got it's information from YADA and entered a genre that is not in my list.

4)  All tracks ripped correctly, but when I look in my listing by Genre/Album I don't see the album at all...

5)  So, I went to my smartlist (recently ripped) and found all of the missing tracks.  I then highlighted the tracks and found that they were put in a genre that I didn't have in my list.  So, I changed it to the genre that I would have classified it into

6)  I then went to my listings again and still don't see the album in the new genre.  I even shut down media center and re-opened in case it was a re-fresh problem.

so, 2 questions:

A)  If I ripped an album and it was assigned to a genre I didn't have... and it doesn't seem to add the new genre to my list, where does it go?  (and how many albums have I ripped that are in genre-limbo).

B)  When I move this album to the correct Genre (well, the genre I want) - why don't I see it show up in that genre?

I have to be missing something here....

Help!

Tom.

OK, I'm an IDIOT!  I didn't realize that a filter was included on that view scheme.  I have removed the 'Files' entry on the view scheme properties and all of my albums showed up as well as new genres.... sorry to bother you all - you certainly have more important things to do than answer my stupid questions!

Have a great day!

Make sure that you don't have any kind of filter applied to your view schemes. Also check whether the "genre" field that you are using is the same one in both cases and not a custom field.

Hope it helps

EDIT: Oops! ... "slowhand" again. Sorry to be late  ;)
