can't import: "The parameter is incorrect"
« on: January 22, 2004, 11:21:34 pm »

When I try to import some pictures (it happens with audio files as well), I get a popup titled "PlaybackEng" whichs says "The parameter is incorrect". If I close the popup, then it comes back as many times as it appears I have files to import.  Hmmmm..... curious.

Let me guess, the files are synchronized from a network drive that you've made available offline?

You are wise in the ways of science my friend. Now, tell me, why does that matter to MC?

Unfortunately, I don't know.  I reported the bug before, but no one else would back me up.  Now it looks like there are at least 2 of us seeing the problem.  Maybe they'll look into it now...

You can import the files, if you do it while you are connected to the network you synchronized the files from.  MC only seems to have problems with synchronized files that are currently offline.  They will play fine, even when offline, but you won't be able to update them in any way (modifying tags, moving them from withing MC, ...).

Is it possible to give a simple step-by-step on how to reproduce this?

I've never done offline network drive synchronization.

Thanks for any details.

Of course this requires two windows machines running xp, but do the following:

1. load MC on both machines ('A' has your media library)
2. turn on offline files on 'B', and from from 'B' use explore to navigate to the directory on 'A' which has your media files.
3. right-click and select "Make available offline". (wait while windows copy's the files to the offline cache on 'B'
4. disconnect 'B' from your network, so that the files will switch to offline state.
5. Start MC and try to import the files from the network drive.

NOTE: Fast user switching is not available when using offline files. Don't ask me why, Microsoft has spoken.
