Using [ or ] as literals in Rename Files From Properties
« on: January 24, 2004, 10:52:56 am »

I'm trying to organize my files as such:
F:\John Ottman\X2: X-Men United [2003]\
with the year in brackets after the album name. However, due to MC using brackets to indicate replacement words, I can't seem to use them as literals in the dialog (i.e. [[Year]] doesn't work). Is there any way to use a bracket as a literal here?

I'm not sure what version of MC you're using, but [Year] isn't valid in MC10. You have to use [Date (Year)].

And to to get the results your after, use doulbe sets of [].

For instance: [[Date (Year)]]

(This board seems to have trouble with two brackets in a row, but that's what I posted above.)

This was my bad - I was using [Year] instead of [Date] but the error it gave me said something about the double brackets, so I assumed that was the problem.

Thanks for the reply :)

If you try to rename a folder (in Explorer via Rename Files) with a colon won't it give an error?

Yup, I was using that as a (bad) example, but when MC does an album name like that it turns the colon into an underscore.

I didn't even notice that Interact had stripped the double [] off my post. :P
