Media Server corrupting files?
« on: January 22, 2004, 09:25:31 pm »

A few builds back I was having problems when making changes to genre tag information on some audio files.  Upon further investigation, there were a couple of mp3 files that were corrupted and so after removing the problem files, the problem went away.  I never did discover how the files were corrupted, but I just had another mp3 file get corrupted tonight.  I know that this particular file was good because I was listening to it as recent as last week.  My question is, has anyone else had problems with Media Server corrupting any audio files?

Media Server reads, but doesn't write files.

I really doubt it. Media Server opens files with read permissions, not write permissions. Nobody's reported this before.

Any other clues? Are you using any other music programs?

No, I only use Media Center.  If Media Server crashed while streaming an audio file, could that corrupt it?  Some level of interaction between the OS and the application that was interrupted by a crash of the server?

Yeah, I've been checking the drive more frequently since this happened to make sure it is not a bad drive.  So far, it has been error free.  I will watch this more closely and see if I can determine the cause.

I've noticed the same thing.  I'll play mp3 files using media jukebox just fine.  And a less than a week later they become corrupt.  I've never had this problem with media jukebox before.  I started using media server about a month ago and only started noticing the problem since then.  I wonder how many other people this is happening to.

Media Server is read only.  It doesn't write.

Have there been any reports of media center corrupting MP3 files?  MC seems like the common thread for my corruption issues.  I just noticed it as I'm listening to more music now that I'm serving it throughout the house.

Does MC keep any logs that might be helpful to me in solving this problem?

I don't think its a bad disk problem.  Thanks for your help.

Read Only Means It Does Not Change Anything In The File, So There Is No Chance This Could Happen.

This Thread Seems pointless, Maybe your Problem Is Elsewhere

Sorry, maybe I should start a new thread.

Some functions within MC do more than read, such as tag editing.  I was wondering if anyone else have had problems with MC corrupting files (not necessarily media server).

Thanks again.
