Cannot import songs into library
« on: April 11, 2004, 10:08:19 am »

After clearing my library I am trying to reimport.

The import dialogue states that 0 files were found.  My files are organized Music/Artist/Album.  The files are mix of MP#, APE and WAV.

I tried using the browse for folder dialogue.  MC does not recognize that my Music folder has any sub directories.

This problem occurs in the last version of 9, and the current beta of 10.

Check your file associations under options.  Use the "advanced" mode to see more.

I have now uninstalled and re-installed the beta version.  Still no change.

MC does not recognize that directory as having subfolders; although if I point it towards my music backup on a networked drive it does.

Do you have the "Search for files in subdirectories" checked? (bottom of Import File dialog box)

Yes. That box is checked.
It's strange - my photos are arrange in a similar fashion in subfolders - they import fine.

New symptom - if I use Quickplay from the menu, the Music folder is not shown at all.

When using the Import dialogue I can see my Music folder but no subfolders.

I too had some kind of problem like yours. This is how I trouble shooted on my own.
Totally uninstalled the program (make sure you check uninstall libraries). Delete the MC folder from Program files (where it was installed).

THen re-install the program. Since this will be the first installation, MC will ask for locating media files. Check your drive where media files are and then go to advanced options and 'select all files'.

Let MC load all media files into its libray.

Once it is done. Check the MEdia library> audio (or images etc) > disk location. In that COMPARE all your media files are loaded from your drive. If some folders/drives are missing, then those will be the one corrupting your library. You got to report to MC or remove them from that drive and try re-installing the MC once again after complete uninstall.

I had some real media files belonging to v6or 7 which was corrupting my library.

hope that helps. Maybe my problem is different from yours.

Been messing with this for a few days now
I have uninstalled and reinstalled MC completely multiple times.  I still cannot import anything from my music folder.

Just to ensure that the folder itself is fine, I imported the whole thing into Winamp without problems.

Hel please

Can you import using windows explorer?

Select a few random files.
right click->Media Center-> Import
and see what happens.

If it works, then the problem is not on the file associations but maybe in the folder itself... or maybe on a corrupt file that blocks the whole thing.

Have you also tried to move a few files to a different folder and import from there?

Thanks for that suggestion

I uncovered one corrupt file.  Shouldn't Media Center have some better error reporting for situations like these?

However, I am not home and dry

I am able to import everything via Windows Explorer.  However, importing from Media Center still does not do a complete job.  It gets about 25% of the files.  I don't think that there is any file corruption since I can import and play the files from Explorer.

Any ideas, plus a J River - better error reporting when trying to manage large libraries is really needed.
