Does anyone use the Media Mode buttons?
« on: February 10, 2004, 02:54:44 pm »

I was curious to see how many people actually use the Media Mode buttons, vs just using the media view schemes in the tree. After all, if you only want to use audio it should be easy enough to just delete the appropriate branches in the tree???

I understand that the goal was to provide greater customization of menus etc. in each media mode, but that doesn't seem to have materialized. If it's not going to happen, perhaps the Media Mode buttons could just go away? They've never really worked well in conjunction with the View Schemes (you needed to create new VS for each Media Mode).

If you remove them, you can use the space for a big red "Buy" button... ;)

I might use them if they stuck between sessions.... But probably not...
I'd rather then use the extra space for a real search bar...

Agree with above, they were useful when they did something, now they just make the search input area look like the Oscar Mayer truck, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

We may add an option for this, but it is confusing to new users.  They can easily get lost.

That's the one! I've actually seen it twice, once in Chicago and the other time in Boston both times parked along side the road in industrial parks. No meat packing facilities in sight and no driver...odd.

I was using it all the time, but when it stopped saving across sessions it became an irritant, so (for now), my answer is "never"

Never.  Although it would be useful to be able to leave the thing in Audio mode, if only to stop my wife double-clicking on everything in site and constantly starting picture slideshows when she only wants to listen to music.  Allowing these options to stick between sessions would be most helpful IMHO.

And if it is an option, who is it hurting?  By the time a new user got through the possible options to any checkbox related to saving session states, they'd be an old user, a very old user...

However, what I'm really worried about, at this time, is being forced into the application I suspect is coming up. To me, this would be as welcome and user-friendly as a popup 95% of the time.
