View Scheme to show thumbnails
« on: February 14, 2004, 01:08:51 pm »

I have managed to organise a Scheme to view my album thumbnails but I think I have painted myself into a corner because of the file structure of my files??

I get lots of 'duplicates' and cannot filter them out.

The "No duplicates" rule does not exclude the duplicates because of the following (I think??):

When I rip an album with various artists I stick to the standard file protool (Artist/Album)
Therefore a single CD is stored in multiple locations

eg: Soundtrack - Coyote Ugly is stored as follows

LeAnn Rimes\Coyote Ugly\LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight            Thumbnail 1
LeAnn Rimes - Please Remember                      Thumbnail 1
LeAnn Rimes - But I Do Love You                     Thumbnail 1
LeAnn Rimes - The Right Kind Of Wrong             Thumbnail 1

Don Henley   \Coyote Ugly\Don Henley   - All She Wants To Do Is Dance      Thumbnail 2

EMF            \Coyote Ugly\EMF           - Unbelievable                              Thumbnail 3

INXS            \Coyote Ugly\INXS         - Need You Tonight                      Thumbnail 4

etc, etc

Media Centre does not see these thumbnails as duplicates ( I presume because they are stored in seperate directories) and I end up with multiple images for the one album.

Am I even on the right track?
Is this why I am getting duplicates?
How do I resolve it?

You have to keep albums together on disk for MC's album analyzer to work.

You can override 'album artist (auto)' by filling in the 'album artist' field.

It may be easier to just move your files.  MC makes this easy with "Rename From Properties"

What would be the easiest way to move several dozen (various artists) albums which are all currently under the ARTIST/ALBUM filing system (mixed in with all the other albums)?

Do I have to pick them all out individually?

You may have to pick them by hand.  Then rename to something like this using "Rename From Properties":

D:\Music\Assorted\[Album]

I'd recommend using "Assorted" because that's what MC will use when ripping new mix CDs.

Make sure you use the track artist in the filename somewhere so you have that too.
