Problem starting Media Center
« on: February 14, 2004, 11:32:03 pm »

After installing Media Center it won't open. The splash screen appears and then nothing.  If I go to task manager it shows that it's running under processes but that's it.  It doesn't appear anywhere including the system tray.  I've owned this for a couple of years and never run into this problem.  CD Labeler and the rest of the programs will run. Media Jukebox won't.  HELP!!!!!! ?

Sounds like it could be displaying off screen.  Try setting your screen resolution up to see if you can find it.  Otherwise uninstalling and reinstalling might work.

Update if you're not current.

If I go to task manager it shows that it's running

Kill it in task manager, then wait 1 min, then try again

if this does not work, with media center not running, move your library files out of \data\

then try to re-boot media center

it may be a bad library that media center is held up on.

if you have many files (currently i have like 50,000 in may main library) media center will show a splash screen, it will go away, then i must wait about 1 min for media center to show up on a 3ghz computer (it is too long, i know). if your computer is slower it may take sometime with many files.

Thanks for the reply, Jim.  My screen resolution is right and I have tried reinstalling.  I did try to uninstall and nothing happens.  For the heck of it I downloaded the Beta release to see if that would make a difference.  Nope.  I even tried downloading to a new folder, /Media Center instead of /J River/Media Center in case there was a corrupt file and that didn't work.  I think I'm pretty Computer savvy but this has really got me. :-\

Hey King Sparta, I just got your reply after I answered Jim's.  I'll try moving the Library like you said.  I've got about 2,000 files.  I'll let you know what happens.

well if it is not a bad library, don't know.

you could try uninstalling media center and make sure the j river folder is removed and registry entries. then reinstall.

you may wish to backup the cover art folder first if you have any in there.

if it does not boot then buy a new computer, it should work then if it does throw the old computer out the window.

I moved the Default Library Files (2) and that doesn't seem to work either.  Still shows Mediacenter.exe under processes in Task manager but thats it.  When  I kill it and then try to restart nothing.  Splash screen saying it's starting and nothing.............. ?
