Media Jukebox 8 vs. Media Center 9 for Jukebox Capabilities
« on: February 27, 2004, 01:07:02 pm »

I use MJ8 and care only about Jukebox capabilities. Any other capabilities in MC9 are secondary at best for me.

The question: Are there good reasons to upgrade to MC9 just in terms of its music jukebox capabilities? Are there reasons not to (any capabilities de-featured, less stable, less support for handhelds, etc.)? (Paying the extra purchase price for MC9 is not an issue.)

Related question: Is it possible to install MC9 in parallel w/ MJ8 and be able to switch between them at will?

Thanks!

Backup your license and library and give MC (v10) a 30 day whirl...it is very sweet. I am positive you will let MJ go after you have the Media Center experience.

no...MJ & MC cannot coexist because they share many of the same registry entries.

Thanks for the replies! But are there specific features in MC10 that are big plusses for music jukebox applications? The only one I can see from the feature comparison chart is adding unlimited additional fields in the database (not so useful for me esp. if they cannot be incorporated into ID3 tags).

Also, stability and protection of the database are more important to me than new features, unless they are really compelling, so I am hesitant to use MC10 which is still in beta and brand new.

Finally, handheld compatibility (to a Rio S50) is also important and this is a major change it seems in MC10 and hence possible more buggy.

Just looking for some guidance to see if my caution is unfounded, or which features I would be missing out on that are worth taking the chance for. Thanks again.
