Error Installing... Invalid License
« on: March 03, 2004, 09:27:00 am »

I first purchased MJ8 on Jan 28, 2003.  We recently re-installed and when I asked for a new registration code one was provided and it says I have 12 restores left.  But, when I try to use it I get an error box that says:
"Error installing Media Jukebox license: Invalid license"
It was working fine on the trial download.

Thanks for the help!

The file mailed to you is good for 14 days.  Then you need to restore.  Details are here:

I don't understand how your response is intended to help me.  My original file was mailed to me over a year ago.  I just did a restore, attempting both the link provided over the web and by having them email me the code.  Neither has worked.

Are you running a firewall? Is your system clock correct?

The system clock is correct.

The computer is attached to an in-home LAN via a D-Link router with an internal firewall.

Restoring has worked in the past through this same configuration.

Steps to restore:
Went to MediaJukebox website, followed links to the restore page, copy & pasted in my original registration code, clicked on the new code provided, got error message.  Used Save Target As to save the new restore code and went to Media Jukebox and used the Restore license option found under Help, got error message.

I'm not sure exactly what system info is useful to you.
IBM computer, with Pentium 4 CPU 2.4 GHz, 768 MG of RAM.  Running Windows XP Professional v2002 with service pack 1.  The trial version of MJ was running happily, though this is the first time I've tried to restore a license on this new machine.

OK, just thought of something.  The older machine is now downstairs running MJ with the same license.  Is it objecting to me running the software on two computers with the same license?

Kathleen,
We don't know what the problem is.  We're trying to help.  Please just tell us what you know.

You could also try updating to the latest version.

You can copy your system info from MJ Help and then paste it here.

No problem about using the same license on two PC's you own.

I'm sorry, I am having a frustrating day (which is why I wanted to turn some music on :-)  but I'm trying not to be snippy.

I'm not sure what I need to tell you that will be helpful.

Wouldn't updating to the latest version involve purchasing a new license at $39.95 USD?  I'd prefer to avoid that.

Latest version of MJ is on the downloads page.  It's 8.0.400.

You should have received an installation key attached to an e-mail when you did the restore. Did you try clicking on that? The firewall may have messed up the web based keys.

So I just downloaded and installed the most recent version of MJ 8

Upon doing the Restore License option it says:
"Error installing Media Jukebox license: OK"

New error message, strange error  :)

The system info box is still the same, except for the Media Jukebox number is now 8.0.400

I tried a restore of your license, it worked for me.
Next step: double check all the stuff in this thread and the FAQ.
Also, e-mail me (gateley @ jriver.com) one of the mjr files that don't work.
