Installation problem with MC10
« on: March 05, 2004, 10:13:02 am »

Newbie to MC............I just downloaded V9 for the 1st time yesterday (didn't pay yet).  Now today I decided to download v.10 - which went fine.  But when I go to MC and click on "about Media Center", which is under the Help tab it shows v.9.1.

So I deleted v9 in Program Files but MC still says v.9.1.

Is this because its a beta v.?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

What is the name of the file you downloaded?

No it's not because it's beta.

Oh God.  Don't tell me you deleted the prgram directory without doing a proper uninstall.

1.  To uninstall a program you should use the uninstall item in the start menu for that program or if there isn't one you should use add/remove programs in control panel.

2.  You should have listened to what I said and installed v10 over the top of v9.1 instead of uninstalling.

If you did what I think you did you could have screwed things up.  If you are running XP or ME then uninstall MC 10 in the proper way then check System Restore to see if there's a restore point you can go back to before you deleted v9.1 in the wrong way.  Restore your computer back to this point.  Then install v10 again.

Along the lines of what Jim suggested...

You could uninstall v10 (backup library first)/ reinstall v9.1 / uninstall 9.1 (properly) / reinstall v10 (restore library). That should eliminate orphaned entries in the system registry.
