Media server is great!!
« on: November 25, 2002, 03:29:30 am »

Spent the weekend playing with MS over my two computer wireless network and it works great. Wonderful to be able to play what I want on my local system (server) and have the other system playing what my kids want in the living room (client). Of course here are the questions that I am wondering about.
The server has the database and music files on it (basement). It gets turned on and off daily (at least at this time) and so the client does not have access to media files some of the time. That's ok as long as I restart everything on server powerup. Now the server will auto run and share on power up so that end of the link is ok, however I am wondering if the client (which is left on 24/7) is able to "scan" for the server so that when it comes back online, everything goes nice and happy. I am using the client in party mode so that nobody can screw with the server (hopefully). I realise that life would be so much simpler if I just moved all of the media files to the client machine and made it the server (running 24/7 and sharing), however it is a relatively low power system so at this time I would like to try the other way (don't ask).
Any thoughts, etc.
Thanks, Glen.

The client can never change the files on the server.

To re-connect from the client PC, you have to "disconnect" or connect to your "default" library, and then reconnect.
